The Global Classroom, Big Challenge

In this year's Global Classroom, Big Challenge, schools within the Nord Anglia Education family were set the task to Make it Right. The Global Classroom was officially launched at CISAK in February this year, and although we weren't able to particpate in the 2015 Big Challenge, we certainly look forward to being involved in the 2016 Global Classroom, Big Challenge. 

To mark the 25^th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Global Classroom gave students across Nord Anglia Education schools the Big Challenge to use their voice and defend the rights of children everywhere. The project aligned significantly with Oxfam’s education programme of ‘My Rights, My Voice’ which aims ‘to empower-marginalised children and youth to know and claim their rights to health and education services’. Therefore with support and guidance from Oxfam, the students spent four months developing their leadership skills and creating sustainable, lasting projects that will continue to have a tangible impact on the communities they aimed to help (local, regional and global) as well as the school community.

The submissions were outstanding, the effort was incredible and the motivation to make a difference to the lives of children showed what responsible and respectful global citizens Nord Anglia Education students are. To highlight a few of the positive actions, students built relationships with local hospitals, charities and shops; they spoke to government officials, UN lawyers, marines and authorities; they enlisted the help of parents, experts and local schools and held fundraisers, exhibitions and food/clothing drives in towns and villages around the world - all to make a difference to the children of the world. The school communities worked together and students led the action from their own ambition to make it right. An incredible effort by all.

The entries were judged by members from the Education team of Oxfam and Nord Anglia and it was an extremely well contested challenge. Every school deserves recognition for the hard work they put in and the impressive impact they had.

• Most Innovative - The British International School of Charlotte
• Overall Winner - The British School of Beijing Sanlitun

The judges were very impressed with the range and quality of the submissions and so congratulations to the winners and everyone involved.

Even though the competition has ended, we have no doubt our students will continue their efforts to Make it Right in their schools, their communities and around the world.
