Our U12 Boys Football team played extremely well last week at their football tournament at AKIS securing a place in the finals in Doha. Well done to Mr Livesley and his team for their efforts.

Ahnaful Hoque was the star player as NAISAK Under 16 team took part in the QUESS 7-a-side football tournament. He pulled off a string of incredible saves in each of the team’s 6 games against tough opposition from across Qatar. He even caught the eye of the coaches from Evolution Sports who were watching, impressing them so much that they are keen to see Ahanful again in the near future. Well done Ahnaful and good luck with your future as a goalkeeper!

 

British Schools in the Middle East (BSME) are organising a special Qatar Games this year at Aspire. The U13 Games will take place on Friday 2 and Saturday 3 March, and, the U11 Games will take place on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 March. Students will compete in Football, Basketball (Boys) or Netball (Girls), Swimming and Athletics. This is a very exciting and a huge opportunity for our students to take part in a much bigger sporting event so close to home.

The purpose of the Games is to:

• Provide students with a variety of sporting opportunities at an appropriate level for all member schools in a safe and competitive environment.
• Ensure equal opportunity and participation to both boys and girls.
• Ensure the Games provide a learning experience in sportsmanship and in the value of healthy competition.
• Understand the value of the benefits of training in preparation for competition.
• Enable students to specialise in sports appropriate to their age group.

 

This morning the PE Department met with several students who have been highlighted as having the potential to compete in the Games. Being part of the BSME U11 and U13 squad requires commitment from all students selected. Each member of the squad will be expected to attend the two days competing and supporting their peers. Parents and families will also be very welcome. In the lead up to the event, students will be expected to attend extra training sessions to ensure the best possible preparation. Practices will take place before school and others will occur after school. We will be seeking sponsorship to provide competitors with some new kit to wear at the Games.  If any parents can help or know of anyone who would be willing to assist, please contact Ms Libby Tremere.
