Doing arts and crafts, looking at a book, playing in the sand… on the surface, these activities appear to be simple acts of play, but the reality below is far richer. Experienced Early Years educators know that guided and self-directed play is crucial for developing fine and gross motor skills, communication and social skills, pre-numeracy skills and so much more. Playing in the sand, for example, is the perfect context for a child to learn about wet and dry materials, numbers and counting, and the language for describing shapes and tools – all with the support of child-friendly facilities, encouraging teachers and a welcoming environment.
Our school follows the internationally respected British Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. Part of the National Curriculum for England, this curriculum incorporates purposeful play to nurture the innate skills, interests and confidence of every child.
Our Early Years teachers lead learning activities based on seven key curriculum areas. This allows our young learners to build fundamental knowledge and skills through engaging experiences full of curiosity, wonder and discovery. The seven areas are: Communication and Language, Physical Development, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, and Expressive Arts and Design. With this stimulating education, our students emerge ready for a successful transition into Primary School.
