IB CAS Programme at BSB

11 九月 2015

Please see an introduction about the IB CAS programme and how our BSB students will be involved in the different service based projects within the community.

CAS is an IB subject with a difference. It is not examined and carries no points, yet you can’t pass the Diploma without it. CAS stands for CREATIVITY, ACTION and SERVICE. A balance of 50 hours of Creativity, Action and Service is required over the two year program.

CREATIVITY: Create, make, design, write, and choreograph something. Students can also organize something, set something up, and implement a scheme.

ACTION:  Do physical exercise, sports, games, physical work, dance.

SERVICE:  Do things for others, help people, animals, the environment. Teach, communicate, raise awareness, and raise funds for local charities.

CAS adds extra value to a student’s education, creates a diversion, gets you out and about and makes you think about your lifestyle in context with the outside world. It encourages you to be healthy and to be aware of health issues, to develop new skills and abilities by trying new challenges and new roles. It pushes you to take responsibility and follow through on your commitment. It requires you to see the world in different perspectives and interact with communities at different scales.

During the 2015/16 academic year, the Year 12 and 13 students at BSB will undertake a lot of service based work within the community. Some of the projects they will work on this year include;

  • Tanzania biofuel project
  • Christmas Fayre and Santa’s Grotto
  • Summer Fayre
  • Korean book library
  • Roundabout on a Wednesday afternoon and weekend service work
  • Migrant Children's Foundation (MCF)
  • 2nd BSB Fashion Show

Finally this year Miss Colleen Usher, Miss Nicola Hemming and Mr Eurin Morgan have joined the team and will mentor Year 12 students and act as IB CAS advisors. If you would like further information on the IB CAS program please email Mr Mounter on david.mounter@britishschool.org.cn.
