Volcanoes Erupt in Reception!

As part of our phonics time, we were learning the sound 'v'. The children were fascinated by the picture of a volcano that we showed to the children and we discovered that one of the children used to live on the edge of a volcano!

We followed this interest and set up the environment so that the children could make their own volcanoes. First of all, they used their letter sound knowledge to read and follow the recipe for salt dough. Once they were happy with the consistency, they moulded their dough around a plastic bottle. They painted their creation (their idea, not ours) and left it to dry.
