Our Vision for ICT
All students will have an appreciation of the impact of ICT on their world. They will be creative, innovative thinkers who can solve problems and collaborate with others. They will be efficient, effective & responsible users of ICT.
Our school is equipped with a high capacity wifi network which enables access to the Internet anywhere in the building, we have 2 ICT suites and numerous portable devices to support learning.
From September 2016, Primary School students in years 3 to 6 will have access to their own school iPad for use as a tool in school. The iPads will be used to facilitate collaboration, research, multimedia presentations, translation and an understanding of the capabilities of mobile technology. Older students are increasingly encouraged to bring their own portable device to use as a tool for learning.
During ICT lessons are students learn the skills required to use applications that support their learning (e.g. spreadsheets, word processing, research skills) as well as learning how to give dynamic presentations or make digital video and stop-frame animation.
From age 6 students are taught the basics of programming, when they use 'Scratch' to build games and they use beebot programmable toys to test the logic of their instructions. Students build on these skills throughout their time at BISB and learn to program at a more complex level using HTML to build websites or Raspberry Pie in robotics projects.
Our enrichment program gives students the opportunity to develop their skills, in July 2016 students took part in a local robotics competition as well as representing Slovakia in the Jaguar Landrover 4x4 in schools World Finals.
The school’s Moodle Learning platform acts as a gateway to access homework and learning material and is ever growing and changing. Students all now have a Microsoft office 365 account which allows them to easily communicate with teachers and also work collaboratively on documents and presentations.
