I am delighted to be here at BISB and very excited about getting to know my new class, colleagues and host country. I have come to Slovakia from Singapore where I was teaching at the Nord Anglia School for the past four years.

I turned to teaching after enjoying other careers.  I studied Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Oxford University and went on to work in Journalism and Public Relations.  When my children were young I re-trained as a Psychotherapist and worked in Private Practice and for the UK National Health Service.

    Anezka Hetesova

After finishing my Masters degree in Elementary and Special  Education at Comenius University Bratislava, I spent six months in New Jersey to improve my English language and travelled around the USA. Back in Slovakia I spent 1 year working as the East-East programme coordinator in OSF Foundation Bratislava. After several years spent on maternity leave with my 3 children, I had a part-time experience at QSI Bratislava as a music teacher, following this I spent 18 months in a school for physically handicapped children as the Nursery teacher. I am working at BISB for 8 years as a Teaching Learning assistant in different classrooms and year groups and I really enjoy this job. I also like walking, hiking, swimming, singing and playing musical instruments.

    Year 1B class teacher

    Kristi Lucna

I studied Psychology and Elementary Education at Western Washington University. After a few months of supply teaching,  I joined the United States Peace Corps and spent two years in the Republic of Moldova teaching English in a small village, training local teachers and organizing school and community events.  I was eager to explore Europe and teach in an international school so I moved to Bratislava in August of 2000 and began working at QSI as the 5-year-old class teacher.  In 2005 I decided to move over to BISB and taught  Reception. After a brief maternity leave, I taught year 2 for four years (with another maternity leave in between) and last year began teaching in Year 1.

I first arrived in Bratislava 10 years ago intending a short visit but I instead found a wonderful home here in Slovakia. I'm originally from New Jersey and I attended university at Manhattan College in New York City to study Government. After graduating, I travelled throughout Europe before studying further in Austria, Norway and Hungary. Before joining BISB, I taught EAL in Bratislava for eight years.

I began my career at BISB with two years in Nursery supporting our youngest learners, which has been an amazing and rewarding experience. Now I'm with year 1 and I am looking forward to another great year at BISB!

    Lianne Berrisford

    Year 2A Class Teacher

    Lianne Berrisford

After studying at Derby University to gain my BA (Hons) degree in Early Childhood Studies I worked for a year in a care home for teenagers with emotional and behavioural difficulties. Following on from this I decided to study for my PGCE at Manchester Metropolitan University.

After qualifying I worked in Staffordshire, England for four year before deciding to take a career break to explore New Zealand. During this time I volunteered in schools in the South Island, taking seven months to explore the beauty that the country had to offer.

After this, I worked at a British school in Cairo, Egypt for three years and then moved to a British school in Jakarta, Indonesia for two years. During this time I have explored many different countries. My aim is to achieve 50 countries before I turn 50. So far I have 43 so it looks as if I will achieve my goal early! I enjoy finding out about new cultures and communities and spending time in their natural surroundings, whether it be beach, hills or forests.

Because of this reason I decided that I wanted to work in Slovakia, a place that has many beautiful landscapes. I am excited to visit different areas of the country, as well as explore other bordering communities.
