John Carroll

t

Year 4C Class Teacher

After completing a HND in Construction Studies and then a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Building Surveying at Birmingham University, in the UK, I worked as a Building Surveyor and specialist remedial treatments surveyor for 5 years in the English Midlands. I had worked in the field of construction for over 10 years and decided it was time for a career change.

I completed my PGCE at Newman College, Birmingham. I trained and taught for three years in the UK as a Ks1 and Ks2 class teacher. I have now been teaching at BISB for 7 years in various different year groups throughout both key stages.

I decided to become a teacher because I believe I have a vocation and to me teaching is no ordinary job. It is an investment of hope and fulfillment for all of our futures. I always like to go home with a smile on my face after another very satisfying day of teaching and learning. I really love my job because every day is different and just as rewarding as the day before.  When I’m not teaching I enjoy spending time with my family, enjoying the 'great outdoors' provided by the splendid Slovak countryside. I like to cycle to work most days and I am a keen cook and occasional angler. I love walking with my family and being close to nature. I also love a good laugh and try to spread a smile or two whenever I can!

What the students say about me:

‘I like Mr Carroll because he is happy all of the time, he is a good teacher and very helpful and I like to learn with him because he makes me feel good.’

Samko 5B

‘I think Mr Carroll has a good sense of humour. He really helps us to progress in all our subjects and he really tries hard to make us great and better people.’

Caitlin 5B

‘I really like Mr Carroll because he helps us learn in a fun way and that makes me want to go to school and learn with him.’
