  • Children who are ill need to be at home to recover as we cannot  care for sick children in school and do not want illness to spread to the others. Please see our school policy for these common occurences:

-Diarrhoea (2 or more episodes in 24h that is new or unusual): Stay home for 48 hours since the last episode.

-Vomiting (more than 2 times and/or occurring with fever): Stay home for 48 hours since the last episode of vomiting

-Vomiting (1 isolated occurrence without fever): Stay home for 24 hours since vomiting

-Fever (temperature equal to or more than 37.6 degrees celsius): Stay home 24 hours after the pupil is found fever free without intake of fever lowering medication

If your child is ill, please let your child’s teacher know and also whether the illness is contagious or not.

  • Please remember we are a nut free school, this means you may not send any nut products at all to school at any time, this includes Nutella, snack bars that contain nuts, nut butters, nut oils or nuts.

The children have been talking a lot about pets this week and using their imaginations to pretend they are a cat or a dog. We would like to extend this interest with the children by asking them to bring in a photo  of their pet if they have one. We will ask the children what their favourite pet would be and ask them to make a mask of this animal which they can then wear in their play. We will discuss with the children what we need to do to look after pets and what they eat. We will also take the responsibility of feeding the fish in Early Years this week.

We will provide the children with a selection of books about pets to read and we will sing animal songs with them as well. As the children enjoyed making patterns this week we will make some animal patterns with them.

In Mandarin, the children will learn pet vocabulary by making pet puzzles.

This week, children in both classes have been motivated by the space context. At the beginning of the  week, pupils were excited to use the model space ship they had built from large boxes during role-play activities. Using key vocabulary such as aliens, astronauts, rocket, blast off as they play. They have been using a variety of materials to build rocket ships. Using regular and irregular 2D shapes, children have been experimenting and designing their own space ships. During the activity, children have been encouraged to discuss the shape names, edges, corners and colours used. Similary using 3D shapes, children have been creating and exploring properties of shapes for example, some pupils discovered if you place four similar triangular faces together it makes a square face.

To develop number skills, children have been creating number rockets, encouraging students to read and order the digits 1-9. Some children have been keen to write the digits independently, making really good attempts at forming the numbers.

The class library has been stocked with space related fiction and non-fiction texts for children to access. These have been popular during story time with children eager to have them read by adults to find out more. Next week we will use the story Aliens Love Underpants to inspire the children to create their own patterns using paint, shape and other materials.

Next week we will begin to learn our song for the Chrismas show. More information to follow but please encourage the children to share the songs with you at home. This will help them when it comes to showtime to perform with confidence.

We will remind the kids about Marty as well ( the boy lost in the space )and try to encourage them to make up stories with Marty and the Aliens. (Are they friends? Or  families? Can the aliens help to look for Marty? )
