Week Beginning 18 December 2017

We hope you all have a good holiday and we look forward to welcoming you back on Tuesday 9th January.


  • As we returned all the chidlren’s items becfore the holidays to enable us to clean their cubbies, please remember to send in extra changes of warm clothes, any nappies that are needed as well as their bedding.
  • The library will be open as usual so your child will be bringing home a new book in the first week.
  • Swimming will resume as normal on Friday.


What a busy end of term we have had with lots of Christmas fun and activities that we have been doing. After the holidays we will be welcoming the children back and talking about what they did over the holiday period. If you have any photos of the fun things you did over the holidays, please email them to Miss Chilvers or Mrs Robertson.

We will also be introducing different modes of transport and discussing if they have been on a train, aeroplane, bicycle, bus, car, boat.

During our maths focus, we will be counting how many people are on the train and asking questions like ‘if 2 people got off the train, how many will there be now?’ We will also be putting the numbered carriages in order.

In Mandarin, the children will be learning the different modes of transport. They will work together in groups to make a vehicle with junk boxes and materials. They will think about the different parts of the vehicle.

Following a busy last week of term, we look forward to welcoming our children back on Tuesday. We will have some new friends joining our classes and we hope that the new families feel welcomeed by our school community. We are looking forward to hearing about the experiences that the children had over the holidays and welcome any photographs or souvenirs the children wish to share with us.

We will be revising and adapting some routines of the classroom, with children invited to shadow write their name during self-registration. Lots of pupils have shown an interest in writing in the last few weeks and are showing readiness for writing. Other fine motor skills activities will be available such as threading and lacing to develop the strength required to have a good pencil grip. Familiar games and activities will also be available to allow children to revise their numeracy skills. Fresh books will be in the class library to promote interest in the reading corners. We have listed some of the favourite songs, for children to keep practising.

We will be providing a variety of opportunities that allow us to observe the children’s interests  which will allow us to plan for future contexts.







We will talk about  what we did over the Christmas holidays  in Mandarin. The children will talking about where they go and how they arrive there. They will also talk about what place  they like and why  they like it.
