Happy New Year! Xinnian kuaile ,gongxi facai! Please take our best wishes to you and your families for a very happy family celebration time together. We will see you back at school on Monday 26th February.
- Please can we ask that you do not send toys with small parts or snack/bottles with small plastic lids as we do have young children who like to put things in their mouths and we are concerned about choking hazards. Thanks.
OUR LEARNING THEMES
Each teacher will plan learning experiences that link to the readiness and interests that they observe in the children in their class. While these separate themes operate in each room, the children know they are free to choose to work in another room. The planning is specific to each classroom, but not confined to that class, so children have many rich opportunities available to them across the three classrooms. Mandarin teaching will link into each theme, with the Mandarin speaking staff introducing specific language, books and songs.
TIGER AND POLAR BEAR CUBS
The children have really been involved in driving their cars around a large tray of flour in the Tiger Clsss to make tracks. Aftre the holiday we will add diggers and lentils to continue to encourage their gross motor skills. We will continue to use flour in small trays and encourage some of the children to find their name card or write their name in the flour.
In the Polar Bear room the children have been very excited about using the bowling pins and ball and counting how many they have knocked down. This has sparked an interest in counting and number recognition and we will enhance this further by building our own bowling alley. We will add lines on the floor, a ramp and roller for the balls and a whiteboard and pens for recording scores.
BADGER AND BOBCAT CUBS
The children in Bobcat Class have really enjoyed sorting teddy bears according to colour. We will continue after the holiday with different objects and sort them according to shape and size. Making sweet dumplings in the sensory tray has also been a firm favourite with the Bobcat Class this week too. They have added water and mixers and experimented with food colouring during the course of their imaginary play. The focus on cooking we have also seen during imaginary play will continue into next week when we will be adding salt to harden the dough. A choice of paints will be added and children can paint their ‘food’ if they wish.
The children in Badger Class have been showing a keen interest in dinosaurs. We will continue to give them access to the plastic dinosaurs, as well as some dinosaur ‘environments’. We will also continue to read ‘Bumpus Jumpus Dinosaurumpus!’ by Tony Mitton, which is a favourite of the children’s. There will be a number of crafts available related to dinosaurs, such as cutting, painting and colouring dinosaurs.
This Friday (March 2nd) will be Lantern Festival so we will talk about this special Chinese Celebration with the children. We will painting and decorating beautiful lanterns. We will also be making ‘sweet dumplings’ using playdough and counting and sorting these.
