Week Beginning 6 November 2017

MESSAGES

  • Giving Tree – Each year, Giving Tree aims to provide children in need with a gift bag full of winter clothes and school supplies.  Please support this worthwhile cause.
  • Remembrance Day - On Thursday 9 November, we will be marking Remembrance Day in school. This will be marked at 8.30am, with students, staff and parents on the playground.
  • Remembrance Day In the build-up to this event, we will be selling poppies to raise money for the Royal British Legion. Student Councillors will be selling these on the playground at break times for the next week, starting from tomorrow. If you could please explain this to students and share information with room parents, that would be great. We would like to ask for a minimum donation of 10 RMB for a poppy

LITERACY

The children will be learning the Chinese tale of the magic paintbrush, dramatizing and retelling it orally. They will create story maps showing the main events of the story and use these to assist them in writing the story themselves. Our focus will be on using correct sentence punctuation and word order.

MATHS

Next week we will be learning about division. We will understand division as sharing and solve simple divisions by grouping. We will also solve problems involving division using written strategies.

STEAM THEME

This week for Theme we are going to be looking at bridges. We will be looking at the structures and properties of the different bridges made around the world. We will hope to identify the many famous bridges and what makes them so special. Next, we will look at applying our new-found knowledge of bridges to constructing our own!

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING AND DIGITAL LITERACY

Children are learning to create a power point presentation about themselves and their work. They will look at changing the font size, style and inserting pictures from the internet.

PSHCE

We will be reminding the children how to stay healthy, by the choices they make. We will also focus on hygiene and how to stay healthy by washing our hands after going to the toilet and before eating food.

DUTCH

De kinderen van year 2  beginnen deze week met thema `feest`.  We hebben het over allerlei feestelijke gelegenheden en  stellen een feestkalender op voor de komende maand.
