MESSAGES

  • Please note that the BISCAP/ECA/BISS LIONS Swim programme has now finished. There will only be buses at 3:30pm from now on.
  • The children had a fantastic time at Nanbeihu and we are sure they have many found memories of this exciting experience. Please check out the blog entries for photographs from our residential trip.

  • Reuse, Reduce, Recycle: Second Hand Uniform Sale

It is that time of the year again when many families are preparing to move away from Shanghai and on to new adventures! Or perhaps your child has simply outgrown their current tops and bottoms. Please consider donating all your unneeded BISS Puxi uniforms to the Second Hand Uniform Sale. All items can be dropped at the Primary or Secondary reception desks until the end of the school year. All items need to be clean and in good condition, thanks for your support. The next Second Hand Uniform Sale will take place at the start of the new school year. So please come and restock your children's uniforms at the sale in beginning of September. If you would like to work on the Second Hand Uniform Sale project, please email Tracy at tracyly55@yahoo.com. It only involves 4 afternoons over the course of the school year and all proceeds go to charity.

Dates for your diary:

  • Monday 19th June – Y5&6 Science workshop. Please come along to support – 3:30 – 4:30pm in Stage 1.
  • Friday 23rd June – Y5 Class Party & PTA Disco.  On this day, children can come to school dressed in their party clothes. They do not need to bring their school uniform on this day.
  • Thursday 29th June  - Last day of term

SCIENCE WEEK (Literacy, Maths and Science!)

This week all of our learning will focus on Science! We will be learning about Isaac Newton and studying his work on gravity. The children will take part in a variety of experiments to learn about gravity, forces, air resitance and friction. The children will need to apply their Literacy skills in order to write up their investigations and will need to use their knowledge of Mathematics to accurately measure materials and think how to solve problems.  The children will also design and make a space platform for two astronauts to land on, using a variety of materials. The week proves to be very exciting and filled with interesting learning experiences.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING  AND  DIGITAL LITERACY

This week the children will be trying to complete an hour of code from the educational site  https://code.org/learn. In keeping in theme with our Space unit the children will be set the task of completing the Star Wars coding unit which will see them learn how to build a galaxy with code and program droids.

This week we will be reflecting on our time in Nanbeihu. We will be discussing the challenges that the children faced and how they overcame them. We will discuss what strategies we used to overcome our fears and how a positive approach and encouragement from our peers can help us.

Year 5  Spanish -  Ms Watson
Next week we will be continuing to learn about shapes and colours to describe artwork by Spanish artists. The focus will be on pronunciation and listening skills in order to develop fluency. This week for homework students will be creating their own Joan Miro inspired artwork and will use the vocabulary and be creating sentences to describe it.

Year 5/6   Spanish - Ms Caldwell
Next week we are going to continue to study the artist Salvador Dali. We will be creating a fact-file about him, investigating his artwork and choosing a piece to replicate. We will use vocabulary to describe what we see and try to construct simple descriptive sentences.
Homework this week is to find out 5 facts about Salvador Dali in preparation for our fact-file next week.

Year 5 French – Ms De Borger
Next week we will start our reflection on the past year.  We will look back at our weather forecasts and will make a glossary for our cooking book.  The children will make a Kahoot quiz in groups on the different topics we`ve studied this year. 

This week`s homework will be preparing some questions for our travel Kahoot. 

Year 6 French - Ms Rae

Next week in French we will continue with our mask. Children have selected an emotion to design their mask around and we will begin the construction phrase. We will also be thinking about writing descriptions and opinions about each other’s mask in French. Homework this week is to bring in any additional resources you will need for your mask designs.

La semaine prochaine, les élèves travailleront sur des exercices de compréhension écrite. Pour les devoirs, il faut compléter le livret de lecture donné en classe.

Year 5/6 Native German – Ms. Brannasch
Die Schüler wiederholten die Themen Praedikat und Freizeitbeschaeftigung und bereiteten sich auf den Jahresendetest vor, den sie naechste Woche schreiben werden. Am Ende des Booklets gibt es viele Aufgabenseiten, die sie für den Test üben sollten.

Year 5/6 Native Spanish  – Ms Garcia

La semana que viene, como la profesora está de colonias, los estudiantes trabajarán independientemente en la lectura de capítulos de Marcos Mostaza y harán un resumen. También completarán fichas de ejercicios para repasar ortografía.

In het wild

We werken verder aan ons onderzoek voor onze vlog: ‘ode aan de ... !’ Leerlingen leggen een dier naar keuze onder de loep: wat is het natuurlijke habitat, hoe ziet het eruit (als jong, volwassen dier, bejaard dier), waarvan leeft het, hoe leeft het (alleen of in een groep), etc.

Als de informatie verzameld is schrijven de leerlingen hun script en filmen we de vlog met ‘the green screen’ op de achtergrond.

Cito-toetsen

De laatste Cito-scores worden deze week verwerkt. Resultaten worden eind deze week gecommuniceerd.

Vertrekkende leerlingen

De leerlingen die ons helaas gaan verlaten, ontvangen van SDS een onderwijskundig rapport. Hierin staan o.a. de uitslagen op de toetsen vermeld, evenals een uitgebreide persoonlijk commentaar.
