We are a group of Y.8 & 9 students who are busy fundraising for the projects we will support in November when we travel to Tanzania on our amazing service project. We are looking for your help for contributions of second-hand toys, books and any other small unwanted household items for our Jumble Table at the Summer Garden Party. If you are leaving China or just having a Spring clean, please consider donating your unwanted items to our Tanzania Jumble Table. Please send them in to either the Primary or Secondary reception desks.

In Literacy this week we will be returning to our novel ‘Millions’ to begin to consider how to dramatise events within a story. We will look at how to discern clues to how a character moves, looks and behaves from the text and use the dialogue to develop relationships between characters.


In Maths this week we will be using the Lego Mindstorm building and programming kits to link our mathematics with computing skills. The children will be building and programming robots to take part in disaster relief operations, helping to find trapped people and building robotic arms to dismantle collapsed buildings.


This week is the seventh week of our exciting new topic ‘If I Ruled the World’. We will be continuing to look at the profound questions that we considered in our Entry Point. We will continue to look at issues that have no clear answers and discuss how to weigh up evidence to come up with our own opinions. We will also use our deep thinking to inspire our artwork based on using digital media to create a collage.

This week we will be looking again at e-Safety, further helping the children understand how to be safe when online and how to control their own profile on the internet. We will also look at how to make safe searches and how to respond if something inapropriat is encountered.

This week the children will be continuing to discuss safe play and sensible choices on the playground. We will be discussing how to resolve conflict peacefully and will continue to take the children outside to play some new playground games. This will encourage the children to take turns and socialise in a safe and enjoyable environment.

Children next week will be making French toast.
The homework for this week is to revise the endings of regular –er verbs for a test on Tuesday 6 June.  They should also bring in any toppings that they would like to put on their French toast on Thursday.

Next week we will be revising language learnt during Year 6. We will be focussing on sport, weather, hobbies and school subjects.

La semaine prochaine, nous ferons une dictée et en préparerons une autre. Les difficultés de cette dernière seront les accords sujet/verbe et les formes féminines irrégulières des adjectifs qualificatifs. Pour les devoirs, il faut mémoriser l’orthographe des mots en haut de la préparation de dictée numéros 5 et 6 et faire tous les exercices de la page de préparation de dictée 6.

Die Schüler übten, den Broschüren Grundinformationen zu entnehmen (was kann man machen, wann, wie teuer) und die Fragen zur Broschüre zu beantworten. Wir hatten viel Spass, über die Erlebniswelt „Hexenwasser“ in Tirol ein Video zu sehen und die Broschüre zu lesen. Diese Woche gibt es keine weitere Hausaufgabe auβer natürlich dem Lesetigerbuch.

La semana que viene vamos a ver los exámenes finales corregidos y vamos a corregir los errores que hayamos cometido. Luego revisaremos materia para afianzar y mejorar. No hay deberes para estas vacaciones, os deseamos un feliz puente.


In het wild

Het thema kunst is afgerond en deze laatste weken werken we aan het thema ‘In het wild’. In dit thema doen leerlingen rollenspellen, maken ze een stripverhaal over een zelfverzonnen avontuur of aflevering van Freek in het Wild en maken ze een vlog van een ode aan hun favoriete dier, geïnspireerd op de boeken ‘Zij de cobra, wij de adder’ (Y3 en 4) en ‘stem op de okapi’ (Y5 en 6).  


Deze week starten we op vrijdag de Cito-toetsen. De onderdelen begrijpend en technisch lezen, spelling en woordenschat worden getoetst. Leerlingen kunnen niet voor de toetsen leren, maar worden aangemoedigd om extra spelling te oefenen met BLOON (www.bloon.nl, inlognaam is SDSyear3 of SDS year4 of SDSyear5 of SDSyear6, wachtwoord spellen). Het trainen van spelling is een kwestie van herhaling.
