After the Easter break students in Years 6-8 will be taking part in an exciting new reading scheme called Accelerated Reader (AR).
Using this programme your child’s teacher will be able to allocate books specifically matched to their age and reading ability. Students will choose a book within a set reading range then complete an online quiz to check their understanding. As their reading progresses they can move up the reading levels to more complex texts. This is a well-established literacy programme where students can make significant progress in their understanding of the written word; this will benefit them in all their curriculum subjects. The AR programme also builds students’ independence and ability to select texts which are sufficiently challenging in both content and vocabulary and helps develop a lifelong love for reading.
