This week has been an extremely busy week for the teachers. They have spent many hours deliberating the progress your children have been making and considering the effort they have given to their learning. All of this information has been inputted to our school management system so that we can produce your children’s reports. These will be coming home with your child in two weeks’ time; after checking, proof reading and printing, along with your appointment time to meet the class teachers for your parent/teacher conference.
Effort over time is fairly easy to judge although children will often give effort easier in subjects they love the most. It is our aim for them to develop passion for all subjects and we support them in every way to do this. At the conferences, if your child receives additional language support (EAL), then their EAL teacher will also be present to let you know how their language development is progressing. We really hope that their passion and effort of language learning rapidly develops as their confidence grows. It is a continual cycle of support, new learning and new confidence, leading to true bilingualism upon graduation. The level your child currently is will be clearly explained to you so you can measure their progress over time.
As mentioned earlier, the teachers have also been inputting data on your child’s attainment so you can therefore see the progress your children are making. If you are a new parent, you will receive communication about a presentation you can attend to understand how we measure and report progress. For current parents you will understand the points system we use and know how well your child is doing. For all the assessments we report on, teachers use a mix of professional judgement through years of training and experience, alongside formal observations of the children’s learning in reading, writing, speaking and listening, in both English and Vietnamese, and maths. You will also receive some brief information on specialist subjects too.
Learning and progress are never linear and each child is different, making the system of assessments in any school complicated and why the profession of teaching is so skilled. We take a personalised approach so you can understand as simply as possible just how well your child is doing and hope this give you the information you need.
Have a great weekend.
