U19s Football Update

Both the boys’ and girls’ under 19s teams opened their season with home matches against local rivals ABCIS.

The girls were dominant right from kick off, and spurned numerous chances before a long ball from the goalkeeper allowed Magda in to chip the goalkeeper with one touch.

With Han dominant at the back and determined to slide tackle anything that moved, and Jenny causing all sorts of problems down the left wing, it was a surprise to see the goals not build on their one goal before half time.

In the second half, it was much of the same. A raft of substitutions led to some disjointedness from the home side, but they remained in the ascendance, Magda hitting the post from a beautiful free kick, and Linh striking straight at the goalkeeper, before Magda got her and the team’s second for a deserved 2-0 victory.

The boys faced an ABC side two divisions above them, but  despite most of the opposition being much older, the BVIS team were not daunted in the least. Snapping into tackles, and crisp passing led to a couple of early chances before Huy made a great individual run and shot from distance to make it 1-0 to BVIS.

A superb individual goal from their number 10 levelled the scores, but just before half time they took a hopeful shot from distance which took a wicked deflection and left Luy in goal stranded.

In the second half, our boys tired and ABC began to consolidate. Still we had plenty of chances to score, but poor finishing and decision making in the final third let us down.

ABC eventually ran out winners, but in our first game against opposition of this level, it gave us plenty of hope about what we can achieve.
