Last week, Thanh Luy, Bao Tran, Long Hien and Hai Yen worked at Cafe Chat for three days. The experience has given us a better idea of how working in the real world would feel like.
It was tough and a little tiring at first but with our managers, colleagues and customers being so welcoming, friendly and active toward us, it turned out to be surprisingly tender as well. Our main jobs were taking orders from customers, calculating bills and also keeping the place nice and clean. It was really challenging when the busy-hours come, seats and tables are all full, different people with different need gave us a real task, but our enthusiasm and professional attitude were always present.
Obviously, no one can get through the first day without making any mistakes, and so did us, nobody’s perfect. There had been times when we encountered really awkward situations, like when we accidentally took the wrong order or broke some cups but then instead of criticizing us, the managers just motivated us to not feel guilty, everyone make mistake as well as reminded us to be more careful.
From the experience, we really got a better understanding of the service industry and gain some useful skills and techniques. We also get the opportunity to talk and communicate with different kinds of people so it really helps us to be more confident. Moreover, by working in a team, we have developed more team-work skills and spirit. In order to give us more skills, the manager also offered us a lesson on how to make a drink, which was a great experience. We now know how to make our favourite drink for ourselves to enjoy or as a present for our beloved ones.
When the last day ended, we were a little sad since the work placement was a such great experience; we all learnt something new for ourselves.
