Secondary Update – Mr Simon Graves – 01/09/2016

It feels already that the summer holidays are well behind us, even with a three day break this weekend – the year 7s are starting to settle in nicely, older students are already thinking about coursework and next summer’s exams, and the clubs sign-up on CHQ is open today.

There are also lots of exciting things being planned: Trips Week is earlier this year, in December, due to the early Tet holiday, and staff are beginning to plan those visits for years 7-10. Before that, Year 12 will be heading off for the weekend on a leadership trip to select our next cohort of prefects, and four of our year 13s will be flying to Kuala Lumpur for the FOBISIA Student Leadership Conference.

For our older students, Mr Reid and Ms Claydon announced a fantastic opportunity for next March: taking part in the Nord Anglia residential in Tanzania! A letter has gone out to interested students with further details, and there will be a parents’ meeting next week for those who would like more details.

Our latest venture, the sixth form coffee shop, Breezeway, opened on Monday and has been incredibly successful  so far. It is only open to members of staff and sixth form at present, but may soon be opening to parents as well. It is an enterprise completely sourced, run and managed by students and they’ve made a great start.

Can I remind all parents – and students – that mobile phones are not allowed in school. If they are brought in, they should be locked in the lockers until the end of the day. Tablets should be brought in for use in class, but may only be used when given permission to do so. Any unauthorised phones, tablets, headphones or other electronic devices will be confiscated until the end of the day. Thank you for your cooperation with this.

Have a great long weekend – finally a full five days of learning next week!
