Secondary Update

Thank you to all of you who came along to the Year 11 and 12 parents’ evenings this week. It’s always lovely to have a chance to catch up with you all, and it’s a vital opportunity for subject teachers to be able to discuss your child’s learning with you as well. Don’t forget, after the Tet break the Year 10 and 13 parents’ evenings are taking place, and you will have received an email regarding this to sign up through the online system.

Talking of Tet, it was great seeing so many of you at the Tet Fair on Sunday. The weather didn’t dampen spirits at all, and we had a massive turnout as always. Our students and Vietnamese teachers have also been working incredibly hard to put together what I’m sure will be another wonderful Tet Assembly on Tuesday. This runs from 9am to 10am, and you are welcome to come along and join in the celebrations. Please also encourage your children to wear their ao dai on that day – I’ll be wearing mine!

We welcomed Nick Lee, Headteacher of BVIS Hanoi, and Debbie Murray-Smith, the head of teaching and learning in Hanoi, into school this week. I’m always very proud when I show visitors around the school of the welcoming nature of both our staff and students, and they were extremely impressed with what they saw.

This is the last letter from me before the Tet break, and so I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you a safe and enjoyable holiday. I know lots of you will be travelling, and others will be welcoming family to your homes here in Saigon. Whatever you do, have a wonderful time, and a very Happy New Year to you all!

Headteacher’s Awards

NGUYEN, Khac Hai Linh, 10B -  for making and sourcing very effective props for his drama examination group.

Nguyen Le Ngoc Minh, 11B – outstanding English homework.

Pham Hai Trieu (Sophia), (12B) - is playing basketball competitively for the first time in her life, and she had a huge game defensively on Monday.  She had multiple steals, and just generally played well.  Mr McConnell was really impressed that she was brave enough to join a sport she had never done before so late in school, and very impressed with her play.

NGUYEN, Ngoc Gia Bao (BLAIR), 9B - a wonderfully crafted story in English.
