This week was a celebratory and touching one for two very different reasons. On Saturday, we gave the Class of 2017 a wonderful send off at their Graduation Ceremony at Le Meridien Hotel. It was a wonderful evening, with some heart –felt speeches from four of the graduates, as well as a poignant performance by the Secondary Choir.
Wednesday saw the culmination of Key Stage 3 20% time, which allowed students to independently investigate a topic of their choice. From learning the guitar to finding out about university entrance requirements, the students made a fantastic effort and showcased these with classroom exhibitions.

These 25 young people are setting off soon for new adventures and new experiences, but I hope they never forget their time here at BVIS, as we will never forget them. You can read the speeches and watch the videos made to celebrate their achievements here.
On Tuesday, I made an extremely nervous trip to the University Medical Centre in District 5 to visit the first of the recipients of the funds from our Have a Heart Campaign. Phuong is a 16 year old girl who has had no fewer than 12 heart operations in her short life, including a heart by-pass, implanting a stent and surgery on her the valves and arteries. I was accompanied by Ivy and Khanh, the coordinators of the campaign, together with a giant teddy bear that Phuong named ‘Kitty’.
For someone who has gone through so much, Phuong was incredibly happy and full of vitality. She is recovering in hospital over the next few weeks, and I have invited her into school to visit once she recovers fully. I want to finish this week in Phuong’s words:
“Thank you with all my heart. I have received so much help from people and, thanks to that, I have been given a life.”
