Staff Profiles: Andrew Wheeler

Andrew Wheeler

Geography Teacher, Head of Year 10 & KS4 Coordinator

After graduating from Oxford Brookes with a degree in Geological Sciences and a PGCE in Geography I took a temporary post at Abingdon School as a Geography teacher and rugby coach before moving to a permanent role as Humanities teacher and football coach at The Wye Valley School. After 3 years I moved to St. George’s RC School in London, where I spent 7 years as Head of Geography, Head of Year and Associate SLT.

I decided to travel more and was attracted to St. Andrews to be given the experience of international teaching and the IB Diploma and when I visited in 2011 I immediately felt that there was a great atmosphere here. I have been Head of Geography since my arrival in 2012. I am currently the form tutor of 9A and have recently held the position of acting KS4 Coordinator. I am also in charge of the golf team and I am one of the school’s football coaches. I am very pleased to be working at St. Andrews as it gives a wonderful environment for work and friendships with great students and staff. At St. Andrews I have organised numerous Geography trips to Chiang Mai and Hua Hin as well as the Year 12 Habitat for Humanity residential. I have also been a part of the Year 8 residential team.

I am a happy and enthusiastic person who is always looking to achieve and have fun. My interests are based around travelling with my wife as well as playing and watching sports, including rugby, golf, football, cricket, triathlons and snooker.

St. Andrews is a fantastic place for students and staff. There is always an enjoyable and enthusiastic feel here but also a clear objective to learn and achieve in and out of the classroom.

"Mr. Andrew is one of my best teachers. He is very kind and funny and his classes are very chilled so that we can finish our homework and assignments very smoothly. He gave us the best trips ever out of my 8 years in St. Andrews. For the new students who study Geography with him, you’re very lucky!'"

"Great lessons and a fun (best) teacher - love Geography forever!"

"Mr. Andrew always has fun lessons where we get to do lots of activities and also know how to achieve the best grades."
