Staff Profiles: Stephen (Steve) King

Stephen King

Primary Deputy

After obtaining my Bachelor of Arts degree with Qualified Teaching Status and 5 years of working in schools in the UK, I took the decision to travel to various countries around the world for a year. After that I applied for jobs in Thailand. That was in 2001 and I have been at St. Andrews International School Bangkok ever since. I have watched the school grow while maintaining its close-knit feel. I am very proud to have been part of this community and I have seen many students grow up through the school.

I have held various roles here at St. Andrews, including Chairman of TISAC, House Leader and more recently the role of Year 2 Leader as well as Under 11’s football coach for the school. I have also coached FOBISIA students and taken them to various events around Southeast Asia. I am now the Deputy Head of Primary and Early Years Foundation Stage.

My wife is Ms. Meg (Foundation Stage Leader) and we have two daughters and my family takes up a lot of my time. I also play drums in a band with fellow colleagues and friends in various venues around the city in a growing Bangkok music scene. I love to play and participate in various sports including tennis, swimming and football. I still have a love of travel and have travelled to most parts of Thailand over the years. I have also been to most Southeast Asian countries. Two highlights of my travel experiences were trips to Tibet and Japan. Amazing!

Speaking as a teacher and a parent at St. Andrews, I like the sense of community the school offers. Everyone can feel part of this school and has the opportunity to be involved in something they love to do whether it be drama, sport or playing in a rock band. Every student in my class and department loves coming to the school to learn and this positive attitude comes from that sense of belonging that St. Andrews offers.

“Mr. Steve is a great teacher and teaches us a lot of fun stuff like Space and all about the Indus Valley. I liked our Robot Day the best!”

“Mr Steve is an awesome teacher! Every time I don’t understand something, he finds a way to explain it in a way that I can.”
