BSB at the FOBISIA Primary Performing Arts Carnival in Bangkok

Last week on 19th to 22nd March,  a group of Year 5 and Year 6 students travelled to Shrewsbury International School, Bangkok to attend the annual FOBISIA Primary Performing Arts Carnival.

The participants enjoyed a huge variety of artistic activities and workshops during the event, ranging from Salsa to Storytelling and Shakespeare to Street dance. There were also plenty of opportunities to sample the local culture and cuisine, with traditional Thai games, and visits to Vimanmek Mansion (home of King Rama V), and a trip to the nearby night market.

However, as members of either the choir or orchestra, the main focus for students was to prepare for Sunday afternoon’s closing concert, the traditional centrepiece of the Carnival. We will share the video of the concert as soon as it is available.

Unlike the competitive sporting and academic events, the Performing Arts Carnival is non-competitive and a unique opportunity for students from different FOBISIA schools to learn, sing and play side by side, forging lasting friendships and working together to create some truly special collaborations.

In this year’s final concert, performers delivered arrangements of Beatles, Coldplay and Lloyd Webber classics with supreme quality and musical skill, each piece greeted by warm applause from an audience of family members, teachers and fellow music-lovers.

After several very tiring but rewarding days in Bangkok, Sunday evening’s Carnival disco provided a well-deserved chance for students and staff alike to let off some steam.

Congratulations to all of the talented performers who represented BSB with good manners and dedicated hard work.
