Year 12 Duke of Edinburgh’s Silver International Award student group successfully completed their three day / two nights Practice Exploration Adventure Journey on 25-27th March.
The theme of their trip was how the area being explored has changed over time, especially in regard to the impact of tourism on areas of Beijing city and the Beijing province. They chose to visit the 798 Art District, the Dashilar and Nanluoguxian hutongs and a village in the Jiankou Great Wall area.
After researching about each area, the students visited the locations to observe and record the positive and negative changes and impacts of tourism, in terms of social, economic and environmental aspects. The group also interviewed several people, who were most helpful in their answers.
The Practice trip will help prepare the students for their Qualifying Exploration that will take place at a later date. A big thank you to Ms Deborah Cave for helping run the trip.
Mr Nick Bourne
Duke of Edinburgh International Award Coordinator
Our Secondary students starting from Year 10 work towards the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award as part of their curriculum. It encourages students to get active: they can participate in sports, learn new skills, serve or help others, work to develop a sense of responsibility and commitment, and develop their confidence.
