Classroom News & Photos - Year 6

  • Year 6 Talk for writing Nerissa
  • Year 6 Talk for writing Pietro
  • Year 6 Talk for writing Valm

In Year 6 we have been studying journalism. We used our ‘Talk for Writing’ skills to firstly learn a newspaper article by adding actions. This helped us learn the structure of a newspaper article and the kind of vocabulary we can use. We then wrote our own articles. We covered lots of the exciting events that have happened around school recently; we wrote about our house competitions, our transition days and watching the year 3/4 production. Once we had practised coming up with headlines, gathering quotes and including an orientation and reorientation we wrote our final articles on Book Week. We then presented these as proper newspapers to hand out around the school. The articles were fantastic!

As part of our journalism unit we also looked at television and radio media as well. We studied the structure and style of this kind of journalism and paid special attention to the way the news was presented. We then wrote our own reports for television or radio and filmed and recorded them. It was great fun and we really enjoyed watching them back. We have a lot of budding journalists in Year 6!
