A fantastic week was had throughout the Primary School as we celebrated the magic of reading in our annual Portable Magic Week. The week began with a dress up day and an extremely entertaining teacher’s performance of ‘Chicken Big’ for children from EYFS to Year 6. Lots of laughter was had and the children all thoroughly enjoyed seeing the teachers looking particularly silly dressed as chickens!
Throughout the week, there were opportunities to ‘Drop Everything and Read’, where a bell was rung on each primary corridor and children were able to stop what they were doing and read their favourite book.
Buddy reading brought the BSB community together, with Primary students reading together with students from the Secondary school. It was a great opportunity to promote reading for pleasure and to encourage and instil a life-long love of reading in our children.
Before the Chinese New Year holiday, a competition was launched where children throughout the school could send pictures of themselves reading in unusual places. We had lots of interesting entries and were very impressed with the level of effort that went into some of the pictures that were taken. Congratulations to Alistair (Nursery), Yasmin (Year 2), Isabelle (Year 3) and Anny (Year 6) who were the winners from each primary phase and got to spend a voucher at the Obido book fair.
Ms. Smedegaard organised a poetry competition for Key Stage 2 children and they performed in front of a judging panel during Friday assemblies, and again at The Big Read event. They all did a fantastic job and teachers were very proud of the confident way they performed in front of an audience.
As if all that wonderful learning was not enough, every primary class produced a display of their favourite book cover. This provided a fantastic backdrop for the week and hopefully gave children some reading inspiration!
A big thank you to all the teachers and children for their hard work in making Portable Magic Week 2017 such a success.
