We will make sure you know all the important places to go and, of course, we will help you to make new friends.
You will arrive at school either on the school bus or with your parents at approximately 7:30am. Here you will be met by a member of our Admissions team.
We will then take you to your new class and introduce you to your classmates and your new teacher. Your teacher will have already prepared a locker; to put your bag in, and they will have prepared all your exercise books for you to use in your lessons. Your teacher will also have assigned you a buddy who will help you to settle in during the week and will keep you company at breaktimes. Your buddy may be someone who speaks the same language as you; therefore, making it a little easier to settle in.
During the day your buddy will take you on a tour of the school, showing you important places such as the refectory, the auditorium, the playgrounds and the Nurse’s office. They will also introduce you to people around the school such as the Nurse, the Librarian and some of your other teachers who may take you for Music, PE and Language lessons.
You will also sit some tests in Mathematics and English. This will help your teachers to give you the appropriate work in your lessons. Once you have finished your tests you will spend the rest of the day with your class.
At breaktime and lunchtime your buddy will make sure you meet lots of other students and help you to make friends. They will also show you what to do in the refectory and how to get your lunch (if you are having school meals).
At the end of the day, if you are going home on a school bus, you will be taken to the bus by your teacher or teacher assistant. Here you will meet all the other children who travel on the same bus as you. The bus monitor will check that you have put your seat belt on and are met by your parents or carer when you get off the bus.
If you are being collected from school by your parent, your guardian, nanny or driver, they will meet you in the foyer at the main entrance of the school. Once you see the person collecting you, you can tell the teacher and you will be able to go outside and meet them.
We hope that you enjoy your first day at school and that you are excited about being a student at Nord Anglia International School Dubai.
