Melanie Rushton

Melanie Rushton

Year 1 Teacher

Melanie began her teaching career in 2006 as an Early Years teacher.  She then worked for 5 years in Key Stage One where she took responsibility for developing the outdoor learning environment.  Melanie then returned to Early Years as the Year Leader.  She has specialised in Literacy and is now currently leading that subject throughout Early Years and Key Stage One. Melanie has a key interest in the engagement of children in this subject and has recently spent time visiting London’s Institute of Education speaking to key leaders from around the world.  She now wants to expand her experiences and begin a new journey teaching abroad.

Melanie loves to run and currently belongs to a charity running group who meet up every weekend.  Living by the sea makes this a treat especially when seeing the sunrise by the harbour.  She loves eating out with friends and then attempting to create the same dish at home.  Melanie has two sons who have filled her time with football, skateboarding, wall climbing and bike riding.  Now that they are entering adulthood she has had time to return to her love of reading and many a weekend is now taken up with a Kindle in her hand.
