Shaun spent the first part of his career in the building industry prior to moving into site management where he was responsible for large construction projects and the health and safety of the workforce whilst on the development. Later, he became a lecturer at a technical college, teaching students about site management, surveying and building techniques. He enjoyed this job so much he took a four-year BEd honours Design Technology and ICT degree. During his career, he has worked not only as a DT teacher and ICT teacher, but also as curriculum leader for large faculties in both areas in some very outstanding and forward thinking schools. He has also completed a PGCE in Assessment for learning, has attended the National College for School Leadership and been responsible for the implementation of a condensed curriculum where students completed KS3 in two years across the whole school.
More recently, he had the pleasure to teach in New Zealand in a cutting-edge school where the major emphasis was on using up-to-date techniques to empower students and include parents in the learning with use of the flipped classroom, blended learning techniques, Google Dashboard and Docs, Moodle VLE and parent portal. Most recently, he has been Design technology Leader here at NAIS Pudong.
Shaun is a keen salt water fisherman, a qualified Scuba Dive master and enjoys anything outdoors such as mountain biking, kayaking and skydiving. He is a qualified Duke of Edinburgh award leader, supervisor and assessor. Shaun is married to Dr Sara Mills who is employed in the role of English teacher here at NAIS Pudong and his two children also attend the school.
