Staff Profile: Tamla Sparkes

TSP SPARKES Tamla Primary and Secondary

Teacher of PE

Before coming to NAIS Pudong, Tamla worked at both an Independent Sports College and Sixth Form College in Sussex, UK. She trained in my home town at the University of Brighton and qualified with her PGCE in 2012. Whilst at University, Tamla dedicated a large proportion of her time to developing her coaching and teaching skills at a number of local sports clubs and colleges and, therefore, has a vast amount of experience in a wide range of sports.

Tamla specialises in Netball and Field Hockey, for which she played and coached to a high standard back in the UK. Throughout her career, she has coached a number of adult and junior sports teams and, in particular, achieved great success with the University of Brighton Netball Team, gaining promotion over one season. She has always had a passion for sport and, from a young age, knew that her career path would follow this. Having always aspired to teaching overseas, she jumped at the opportunity when a position became available at NAIS Pudong. Aside from her teaching and coaching commitments with school classes and teams, Tamla also organised an adult (and senior secondary) evening netball competition at NAIS Pudong each Monday evening.

Tamla is driven by a challenge and enjoys the commitment and dedication needed to achieve success in sport. She represented Sussex and competed across the UK in netball for nine years and dedicated a lot of her free time to fitness training. In particular, she likes running and attending fitness classes.

Outside of sport, Tamla loves to travel and experience different cultures. Living in Shanghai has provided an excellent platform for her to do this, especially working for Nord Anglia Education as it is a global organisation with connections in a number of different countries.
