Last year, our school community raised over 85,000 RMB after the earthquakes to support the projects that a fellow FOBISIA School, The British School of Kathmandu was doing. We are pleased to report on the progress of the construction work in Dhading. Work is progressing on schedule and it is not long until the students will be back in permanent classrooms.
Even before the BISS Lions swim team changed into their swimming gear for the FOBISIA Games held last week in Phuket, practice made perfect when they arrived at the venue during a tropical rainstorm which meant shoes had to be taken off for everyone to march through the flood. This on top of delayed flights meant the team pretty much went to bed straight away to be fresh and active for the next day.
Last Friday, the Shanghai Kun Opera theatre and its professional performers were invited to our school to introduce Kun Opera and its contributions to Chinese culture to students and teachers. The audience immediately became passionate and amazed by the series of shows that would follow: romantic scenes, combats, comedies.

Over the last two weeks, the Year 4 BISS Puxi Roaring Lions debating team have been participating in Round One of the Global Debate League. Up against the Hong Kong Heroes, the team have been arguing for the motion that richer countries should give money to developing countries to help them develop green energy sources.
Last week, Year 1 embraced the changing weather in Shanghai and took on the job of reporting the weather and during their Literacy lessons, they even wrote their own weather reports. They learned how to spell the days of the week and have been including North, East, South and West.

The BISS Puxi under 19 Girls Basketball team successfully defended their ACAMIS title in Tianjin last weekend. They had a tough schedule of 7 games over 3 days against teams from all over China. A commanding defensive display from Laura Kelly in the opening game vs XIS set the tone for the whole weekend - BISS Puxi had arrived and they meant business.
