We encourage children to be academically inquisitive and to take responsibility and initiative as they move into this more structured phase of their schooling at The British International School Shanghai, Puxi.
Using the British National Curriculum as a guide and implementing a skills-based approach, teachers and children work together to develop cultural, social and academic understanding. We take great care to keep children inspired and happy in their school lives.
Learning at our elementary school in Shanghai
Children at this young age need to be active, so we adopt a creative and practical approach which develops children’s natural curiosity and fosters a desire to learn, think and take risks. A cross-curricular approach to teaching helps children to make meaningful connections in their learning and links their studies to the real world.
Children have regular opportunities to learn beyond the classroom with exciting educational visits, themed days, extracurricular activities and productions. We also recognise the role of technology in the current and future lives of our students and create meaningful opportunities for children to learn, explore and use modern technology across the curriculum. We strive to ensure that all children achieve at a high level and carefully plan learning and development around the individual needs and interests of each student, using modern assessment methods to ensure that every child makes continuous progress.
Your child's personal development
Through the formal and informal curriculum we support all children to develop social confidence; to be self-reliant and self-disciplined; and to form positive relationships with students and adults. We help them to become more globally aware and to start to understand what it means to be part of a community. We work closely to build open and honest partnerships with parents in which regular communication and mutual support is fundamental. All children are important to us, and we delight in celebrating and sharing their many successes.
We ensure that the high standards achieved by the KS1 students at our international primary school prepares them for the best possible transfer into KS2 as highly engaged and self-motivated learners.
