LEARNING THEMES – UNDERSTANDING THE WORLD
‘Spring’ will continue to be our consistent theme across the Reception classes. As the childrens interests develop they will lead their learning as we encourage them to ask questions and support them to find the answers. The children will be looking at how the weather is changing and begin to think about how plants and animals are affected by this warm weather. We will be creating different pictures to represent what we find out obout the seasons, especially Spring!
Investigate, find out, change, to stay the same, to be different, why, what, how
LITERACY- LISTENING & UNDERSTANDING
We will be listening to stories about spring time and encouraging the children to ask questions about what they hear and see in the books. You can also share these spring stories with your child at home.
‘Planting a Rainbow’ by Lois Ehlert
‘Jasper’s Beanstalk’ by Nick Butterworth & Mick Inkpen
‘My Spring Robin’ by Anne Rockwell
‘Wake up, it’s Spring’ by Lisa Campbell Ernst

The children will continue to progress with their ‘Letters and Sounds’, working with class teachers throughout the week to consolidate their phonic skills and learn new sounds as they are ready to move on. Please check your children’s phonics pack for new sounds, tricky words and common sight words to practise at home in line with their learning at school.
