Spring Time is springing across the Reception Cubs classrooms! Each class will once again be following their learning through the interests of the children. For this short week ‘Spring’ will be our consistent theme. Classes will look at what Spring means and what happens during the Spring Time e.g. flower buds, baby animals, warmer weather. The Bears will become Spring Superheroes, the Racoons will look at our planet Earth and how we can look after it, the Pandas will be exploring light and shadows, the Leopards will focus on colours and the Cheetahs will be looking at the changes that Spring brings.
LITERACY- SPEAKING LISTENING & UNDERSTANDING
The children will be using lots of questions and answers this week during their exploration and observation of Spring. They will be working hard to describe all the things they notice during this time and learning new words.
Spring, Earth, Sun, warm, buds, flowers, animals, light, shadows, colours
The children will continue to progress with their ‘Letters and Sounds’, working with class teachers throughout the week to consolidate their phonic skills and learn new sounds as they are ready to move on. Please check your children’s phonics pack for new sounds, tricky words and common sight words to practise at home in line with their learning at school. Can the children find the words and letter sounds they have been learning in their reading books and story books at home?
MATHS – NUMBER
Children will be encouraged to become Super Math Problem Solvers this week! Math challenge activities that allow the children to explore numbers and patterns of numbers will encourage them to use their skills in counting, identifying more and less and numeral recognition.
How many? a group, make , altogether, and, add, total, more than, less than
UNDERSTANDING THE WORLD
Children are finding out about the world around them all the time. This week we will be helping them answer some of their own questions about Spring and the changes that they might be seeing in their environment at school and home e.g. flowers growing, warmer weather. Why are buds appearing on the plants? How do we know the weather is getting warmer? They will be using all their senses to explore this new season.
Investigate, find out, change, to stay the same, to be different, why, what
We will review the transport we have learnt for last 3 weeks.
