MATHS

During our Maths lessons this week we will be looking at measure and the vocabulary that we use when describing how long things are. We will use cubes to find how long objects around the classroom are and then we will begin to accurately use a ruler to measure and record in centimetres. Once we have learned how to use centimetres we will try to make accurate estimations about the length of different objects.

PHONICS

Puffer Fish - This week the Puffer Fish phonics group will be consolidating their knowledge of the sounds-g, o, c and k. They will be combining them with previous sounds to make new words such as cot, got and kit. They will also be learning to blend and read the high frequency words- back, put, his and him.

Jellyfish - This week the Jellyfish phonics group will review all Phase 2 and Phase 3 sounds learnt to date. They will then be learning the new sounds; ow, oi, ear and er.  They will also be learning to read the high frequency words; you, this and that.

Starfish - This week Starfish will learn alternative pronunciations for ‘c’ and ‘g’ and reading and spelling polysyllabic words. We will also practise reading and spelling common words.

Octopus - This week the Octopus phonics group will review all Phase 2 and Phase 3 sounds learnt to date. They will practise reading and writing words featuring these sounds, paying particular attention to the consonant clusters and vowel digraphs. They will also practise reading high frequency words.

Stingrays- This week the Stingrays group will be consolidating their knowledge of the sounds - f, x and b as well as learning about the word endings – ll and ff. We will be applying these to spelling such as huff, bell, hill, puff and spell.

Sharks –  The Sharks are continuing to look at methods of decoding and reading a variety of cvcc words. We have focussed on identifying incorrect spellings of common words and correcting them. We have continued to remind ourselves of the reading of tricky words and spelling continues to be an area that we will focus on.
