MESSAGES

  • World Water Day 22 March – Dress up in blue or water themed
  • We do our best to ensure the children’s hair is dried after swimming. To support us with this please can you make sure that your child brings a rubber swim hat, and a warm hat for outside play. Thank you for your continued support with this.
  • Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. In particular please ensure your child is wearing black shoes. Girls should wear plain white socks and boys should wear black or grey socks. You can review the school’s uniform policy here.

LITERACY

In Literacy this week, we will continuing with our unit on fantasy stories. This will revolve around books by James Mayhew, where a little girl, Katie, steps into famous paintings and has adventures. The children’s focus will be on using  their understanding of the structure and events of the stories to plan and write their own fantasy story.

MATHS

In Maths, the children will be returning to the topic of measurement, with a focus on mass. They will start with recognising the key units of measurement for mass and understanding the value of each of them, e.g. 1 kilogram is equivalent to 1000 grams. They will use this knowledge to estimate and measure the masses of various objects through practical activities and apply it to solving mass word problems.

THEMED LEARNING

The children will be continuing their science unit on Light and Shadow. Using their understanding of transparency and opacity, they will first choose the best material with which to make shadow puppets. Using the shadow puppets, the children will then carry out a fair investigation to determine how the distance between a light source and an object can affect the size of a shadow.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING AND DIGITAL LITERACY

In Computer Programming the children will continue to work on creating a video record of their school trip using Windows Movie Maker, focusing on editing and adding in music and sound effects.

DUTCH

Kunst met een grote K

We vervolgen het thema ‘Een hele kunst’, wat door de kinderen is omgedoopt tot ‘Kunst met een grote K’. We leggen de nadruk op beschouwen en ervaren en het formuleren van onderbouwde meningen.

Verschillende boeken staan weer centraal, waaronder: ‘Willewete, Naar het museum’, ‘Het grote Rijksmuseum voorleesboek’, ‘Kunst voor kinderen’, ‘Kunstige Kwasten’ en ‘De Stip’.

We werken verder aan de themawoordbank. Ook sluiten we het programma aan bij de verschillende boeken die we lezen. In Year 3 en 4 zullen we uitwerken hoe een museum werkt. Year 5 en 6 onderzoekt hoe beeld kan leiden tot een verhaal.

Op dinsdag en woensdag krijgen we bezoek van Victoria Farkas, workshops creatief schrijven komt geven. De leerlingen hebben vorige week een aangepaste huiswerkopdracht ontvangen rond dit thema.

MFL

Year 3 / 4 Spanish – Ms Caldwell

Next week the children will continue to revise the names of items in their pencil cases.  They will be able to build sentences using these words and ask what is in other children’s pencil cases. In addition to this, the children will also be learning about class subjects.
Homework is to practise vocabulary via Linguascope (flashcards and matching game).

Year 3 / 4 Spanish – Ms Martinez

Next week we will learn about food in Spanish, and revise the use of the verb tengo.
Homework: Children will prepare a description of a monster in Spanish, in preparation for next week’s lesson.

Year 3 / 4 French – Ms De Borger

Next week we will celebrate one of French most famous children`s favourites: ` les crêpes` (pancakes).   We will practise the names of the ingredients and talk about our favourite toppings.

This week`s homework will be designing Tour de France jerseys.  Can you remember the names of the different colours?

La semaine prochaine, nous continuerons de traviller sur les irréguliers du présent. Pour les devoirs on doit apprendre par coeur les 12 verbes irréguliers vus en classe (dans son livre).

Wir untersuchten die verschiedenen Intonationen und Satzzeichen. Dabei standen die Ausrufesätze im Mittelpunkt. Die Kinder sollen zu Hause die Seite 40 im Booklet machen („Das grosse Familienfest“), und zwar zuerst zu den Bilderaussagen die Satzzeichen setzten und dann eigene 3 Sätze schreiben.

La semana que viene vamos a seguir trabajando los sustantivos y su clasificación. Como deberes, deben traer un libro de lectura de su elección que tienen que empezar a leer este fin de semana.
