Week Beginning 28 November 2016


  • Homework will be given out on Wednesdays and expected in on Mondays. 
  • Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. In particular please ensure your child is wearing black shoes. Girls should wear plain white socks and boys should wear black or grey socks. You can review the school’s uniform policy here.
  • Please remember to send in and label your child’s snack box and water bottle, as well as a raincoat for wet weather.
  • If for any reason your child is unable to take part in PE, please send a signed message in your child’s communication book.  Your child still needs to bring in their PE kit to enable them to participate as a coach, an official or to give feedback.  
  • Please be aware that the days are getting colder and wetter and dress your child accordingly.   A warm hat is also recommended, particularly on swimming days.
  • Date for the diary: Year 3 will be having their Themed Learning Showcase on Wednesday 7 December from 9:00am – 10:15am. We would like to invite parents to join us in celebrating all of the hard work the children have done during their ‘Footprints from the Past’ topic.

This week in Literacy we will be looking at how to write effective questions. We will explore the difference between open and closed questions and how to write engaging questions with matching answers. Using a variety of sources we will further research dinosaurs before applying our research to create a Kahoot quiz.

In Maths this week, the children will be learning about time. Children will learn to tell and write the time from an analogue clock, including using Roman numerals from I to XII, and 12-hour and 24-hour clocks. They will begin to estimate and read time with increasing accuracy to the nearest minute; record and compare time in terms of seconds, minutes, hours and o’clock; use vocabulary such as am/pm, morning, afternoon, noon and midnight.

We are moving into our history focus this week in Themed Learning. This will centre around the use of paintings to communicate about life in the past. The children will initially explore a range of cave paintings, and be encouraged to record what they want to find out about cave paintings. This will mean the children will take part in leading their own learning and discovering answers to what they are interested in. Their knowledge and understanding at the end of this short unit will be communicated through the creation of their own cave paintings.

This week the children will continue learning the foundations of computer programming. They will be using the Espresso Coding website , which enables pupils to create programs by using code blocks.

De leerlingen kijken hun interviews terug en geven elkaar feedback op het werk (peer-response). Ook maken we de collages van een familietraditie naar keuze af. De profielen van de opa’s en oma’s van de toekomst en de collages van familietradities worden gebundeld tot een boekje dat de leerlingen mee naar huis zullen nemen aan het einde van dit thema. We herhalen de aan bod gekomen woordenschat en beeldspraak.

Uiteraard staan we deze week stil bij Sinterklaas en zullen de leerlingen werken aan een speciale opdracht, gegeven door de Sint zelf!


Year 3 / 4 Spanish – Ms Caldwell

Next week the we will be learning the Spanish names for classroom objects.   They will then use this vocabulary to create basic sentences.  For example, ‘Here is the pencil.’

Homework this week is to revise adjectives on Linguascope.

As December approaches, we will s tart counting down to Christmas.   We will read the Nativity Story in French and learn the French story of Jingle Bells `Vive  le vent`.  Joyeux Noël!

This week`s homework will be presenting the story `Es-tu ma maman? `to your family,  using the stick puppets we have made in class.

Nachdem die Schüler neue Bücher in der Bibliothek ausgesucht haben, haben wir uns mit dem Text schreiben beschäftigt, und zwar, dass man Groβschreibung am Satzanfang beachten muss. Zu Hause lesen die Kinder ihre Bücher weiter, schreiben oder malen in ihren Lesetiger-Heften. Zusätzlich üben sie einen zusamenhängenden Text zu schreiben: KV 14 im Booklet „Bilal besucht seinen Freund“ bietet ein Beispiel dafür. Dabei beschreiben die Kinder ihren Weg zum Freund.

Esta semana hemos hecho un breve test sobre lo que hemos hecho hasta ahora. La semana que viene vamos a trabajar las palabras con ‘ll’ y ‘ñ’, la comprensión lectora y la expresión escrita. Para deberes, hay que completar dos páginas del cuadernillo de ejercicios.
