Week Beginning 5 December 2016

Please note that the ECA/BISCAP programme finishes this week.  The Term 2 registration programme is now open.

MESSAGES

  • Homework will be given out on Wednesdays and expected in on Mondays. 
  • Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. In particular please ensure your child is wearing black shoes. Girls should wear plain white socks and boys should wear black or grey socks. You can review the school’s uniform policy here.
  • Please remember to send in and label your child’s snack box and water bottle, as well as a raincoat for wet weather.
  • If for any reason your child is unable to take part in PE, please send a signed message in your child’s communication book.  Your child still needs to bring in their PE kit to enable them to participate as a coach, an official or to give feedback.
  • Please be aware that the days are getting colder and wetter and dress your child accordingly.   A warm hat is also recommended, particularly on swimming days.
  • Date for the diary: Year 3 will be having their Themed Learning Showcase on Wednesday 7 December from 9:00am – 10:15am. We would like to invite parents to join us in celebrating all of the hard work the children have done during their ‘Footprints from the Past’ topic.

LITERACY

This week in Literacy we will be looking at producing accurate sentences. Over the next two weeks we will be focusing on  punctuation and conjunctions . We will explore different types of punctuation and how to use a variety of conjunctions to begin to expand our sentences.

MATHS

In Maths this week, the children will be contining their work on time. Children will learn to tell and write the time from an analogue clock, including using Roman numerals from I to XII, and 12-hour and 24-hour clocks. They will begin to estimate and read time with increasing accuracy to the nearest minute; record and compare time in terms of seconds, minutes, hours and o’clock; use vocabulary such as am/pm, morning, afternoon, noon and midnight.

THEMED LEARNING

We will continue to look at paintings and how they communicate about life in the past. The children will first of all identifty locations around the globe where some cave paintings have been found. They will then work as a group to create a cave painting.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING  AND  DIGITAL LITERACY

This week the children will continue learning the foundations of computer programming. They will be using the Espresso Coding website , which enables pupils to create programs by using code blocks.

The children will be focusing on working collaboratively and supporting each other. They will be working in teams to create a large cave painting, requiring collaboration, sharing and patience.

Vorige  week zijn we niet toegekomen aan dat wat er op de planning stond omdat Sinterklaas de leerlingen hele belangrijke opdrachten had gegeven die toch echt prioriteit hadden.

De leerlingen kijken deze week hun interviews terug en geven elkaar feedback op het werk (peer-response). De profielen van de opa’s en oma’s van de toekomst en de collages van familietradities worden gebundeld tot een boekje dat de leerlingen mee naar huis zullen nemen aan het einde van dit thema. We herhalen de aan bod gekomen woordenschat en beeldspraak.

Year 3 / 4 Spanish – Ms Caldwell

Next week, we are going to be creating a class booklet to send to a Spanish class in Vietnam.  In this exchange, we will be passing on information about China, Shanghai, our school and typical Christmas traditions from our home countries. 

Homework this week will be to research typical Christmas/ Winter traditions from our home countries.

Next week we will continue our Christmas topic, reading the story ' Le Petit Sapin' ( The little Christmas tree). We are looking forward to Christmas, filling up our advent calender with Christmas vocabulary.

Die Schüler haben mit Begeisterung neue Bücher geliehen und sollten weiterhin fleiβig zu Hause lesen und dazu etwas in ihren Lesetiger-Heften schreiben oder malen. Im Unterricht haben wir uns die bestimmten Artikel unter die Lupe genommen und untersucht, wie diese im Satz funktionieren.
Zu Hause sollten die Kinder also S.22 im Booklet machen: einen Unfall nach den vorgegebenen Wörtern beschreiben und dazu einen zusammenhängenden Text schreiben.

La semana que viene vamos a trabajar la ortografía: diferencia entre las letras z, c y qu. También seguiremos trabajando la comprensión lectora y la escritura. Los deberes para esta semana consistirán en completar la dos páginas siguientes del cuaderno.
