Week Beginning 10 October 2016

  • Homework will be given out on Wednesdays and expected in on Mondays. 
  • Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. In particular please ensure your child is wearing black shoes. Girls should wear plain white socks and boys should wear black or grey socks. You can review the school’s uniform policy here.
  • If for any reason your child is unable to take part in PE, please send a signed message in your child’s communication book.  Your child still needs to bring in their PE kit to enable them to participate as a coach, an official or to give feedback.  If your child would be swimming, they should bring their normal PE kit.


In Literacy this week the students will build upon their prior learning of information texts.  They will have the opportunity to write about their own futuristic car invention, using the language and including features of information texts.  Once written they will edit, up level, and add to their work before writing it up in best.

In Maths this week, we will be investigating multiplication and division. Starting with recapping different ways of multiplying, we will move onto using formal methods and then look at how these link with division. Once this has been established, the children will move onto working on division problems. Finally, they will then use this knowledge to investigate ratio and proportion, seeing how this aspect of Maths links to multiplication and division.

The children are going to be researching about the inventor Thomas Edison, who helped to invent the light bulb. They will  analyse how it wasn’t just Edison who invented the lightbulb, but that others contributed to. Students will continue their learning about electrical circuits by investigating materials that are conducotrs and insulators of electricity.

The students will continue developing their typing skills using ‘Dance Mat’. We encourage them to also do this at home if they wish.

We will also be learing to code using Espresso Coding to create games.

Reisbureau SDS: Reisverslag en Reisverhaal

Na het doen van onderzoek, het schrijven van de flyer en het reisprogramma en het verkopen van de reis op de reisbeurs verdiepen we ons de laatste twee weken van het thema Reisbureau SDS in de tekstgenres reisverslag en reisverhaal. We kijken naar de typische kenmerken van de teksten, naar overeenkomsten en verschillen en schrijven zelf een reisverhaal op basis van reisverslagen van de vakantie.

Optioneel huiswerk: de leerlingen schrijven per dag een kort verslagje (1 – 3 zinnen) over de vakantie. We gebruiken dit in de klas.

Bij spelling herhalen we deze week de volgende categorieën van Staal:

Groep 4: lange en korte klanken, luchtwoord, zingwoord, plankwoord

Groep 5: open en gesloten lettergrepen (vervolg introductie)

Groep 6: open en gesloten lettergrepen (verdieping), tropisch-woord, politie-woord

Groep 7: langermaakwoord (-b, -d), sterke werkwoorden in de verleden tijd, open en gesloten lettergrepen

Year  3/ 4 French:  Miss Wood

Next week we shall be focussing on talking about family members. We shall review the letters of the alphabet and basic household items. The children will be encouraged to independently find and learn new vocabulary using computers and the Linguascope website. The children will practise prepositional phrases using “dans” and “sur”.

Cette semaine nous allons travailler sur la phrase et identifier une phrase et enrichir notre vocabulaire pour décrire notre famille.

Pour les devoirs les élèves devront produire un joli poster dans lequel ils  présenteront les membres de leur famille.

Im Deutschunterricht diese Woche haben wir über den ersten Schultag gesprochen und die Kinder haben ganz gerne ihre Erinnerungen mit den anderen geteilt. Sie haben dann auch einen kurzen Text über ihren ersten Schultag geschrieben.
Zu Hause können die Kinder in den Ferien eine kreative Profilkarte von einer Filmfigur gestalten, ähnlich wie die „Ich-Karte“ und dabei ihr schriftliches Deutsch üben. Der zusammenhängende schriftliche Ausdruck wird demnächst unser Fokus sein, indem die Kinder kurze Texte zu verfassen üben werden.
