LITERACY

This week in Literacy children of Year 4 will be considering arguments and debate. This will include how aruments are strucured, opinions and the use of language to expess points of view. The grammar focus will be causal connectives. The spelling focus of the week is the suffix – ly.

MATHS

Data is next week topic in Maths. We will learn how to present, and answer questions about bar charts, time graphs, and Venn diagrams. Interpreting, and making sense of data presented in bar charts will be the main focus at the start of the week. A big part of interpreting data is learning and understanding particular vocabulary, much of which is listed below. We will also discuss why certain data is best presented in particular formats such as time graphs – and learn how to create time graphs from a set of data, as well as continuing to practise being able to answer questions, this time with time graphs.  Finally the students will consolidate their knowledge of Venn diagrams.

THEMED LEARNING

Year 4 are learning about printing techniques and the art skills related to printing in Themed Learning and will be applying their own volcano designs to create a layered effect. The children will experiment with the printing inks to begin with and practise using the tools for printing in order to build up their knowledge towards a final piece of artwork. We will be studying various artists who use printing including Hokusai and his own volcano printed art work. Layering will create a range of different colours for the print design and the children will learn about how to use colours together to create a pleasing outcome.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING  AND  DIGITAL LITERACY

Year 4 are continuing to learn more about Internet Safety and how to use the internet appropriately. They will be doing this through groups discussions and having an opportunity to share their views. They will be looking at a scenario of someone who spends too long online and think9ing about the effects this has on their life and their attitude to everyday life. They will also be able to try some online activities in the Cyber Cafe to find out more information about staying safe.

DUTCH

Een hele kunst

We starten met een nieuw thema waarin Kunst met een grote K centraal staat. We leggen de nadruk op beschouwen en ervaren en het formuleren van onderbouwde meningen.

Verschillende boeken staan weer centraal, waaronder: ‘Willewete, Naar het museum’, ‘Het grote Rijksmuseum voorleesboek’, ‘Kunst voor kinderen’, ‘Kunstige Kwasten’ en ‘De Stip’.

Deze week hebben we het over feit en mening en kijken naar kunst. Samen met de leerlingen werken we een woordbank uit.

De Cito-resultaten van de meeste kinderen worden maandag mee naar huis gegeven. Een enkele leerling moet door afwezigheid nog een toets afmaken of inhalen. De uitslagen van deze leerlingen volgen later deze week.

Year 3 / 4 Spanish – Ms Martinez

Next week we will continue to use descriptive vocabulary, and embed the rule of adjective agreement.

Homework: To revise vocabulary for parts of the body, colours, grande and pequeño using Linguascope.

Year 3 / 4 Spanish – Ms Watson

This week we are learning how to say “Are you…?” and “I am…”. We will practise this in different contexts so that students become comfortable asking others and responding confidently in Spanish. For homework they are drawing a comic strip that is about an animal asking other animals if they are something and the other animals respond.

Year  3/ 4 French:  Miss Wood

This week we shall continue to review the numbers, months of the years and birthdays. Combining this with information about their appearance, for example, hair colour and eye colour, the children will collect data to create a survey about others in the class. They will be learning to recognise and use simple agreements for adjectives and nouns.

La semaine prochaine, nous travaillerons sur les principaux irréguliers du présent de l’indicatif. Pour les devoirs, on doit compléter la feuille d’exercice sur les familles de mots (dans le livret).

Die Kinder haben diese Woche die Verben „hatnah“ erlebt: sie pantomimisch gezeigt und beim Kochrezept erkannt und  befolgt.

Zu Hause haben die Kinder eine Wahl: entweder ein Kochrezept in Verben aufschreiben (wir nehmen, wir waschen, wir schneiden) oder einen Wochenendtag in Verben beschreiben (ich wache auf, ich stehe auf, ich spiele usw.)
