In Literacy this week, we will be continuing our focus on balanced arguments. This week, we will turn our attention to earthquakes and to structure an argument regarding whether people should live near fault lines. We will use the skills learnt last week about providing evidence to back up our information. Following this, we will look at rules for having a debate and introduce the children to the language and etiquette of debating.

Angles and shapes will be next week’s topic in Maths. We will discuss what acute, obtuse and right angle mean, and then the children will identify these angles within shapes. The children will also start looking at how angles can be measured using a protractor.  When learning the names and properties of shapes later in the week they will need to apply this new knowledge of angles again. The students will also explore different types of triangles including equilateral, acute and scalene triangles among others, and then quadrilaterals too.

Year 4 are continuing to learn about printing techniques and the art skills related to printing in Themed Learning and will be applying their own volcano designs to create a layered effect. The children have experimented with the printing inks to begin with and practised using the tools for printing in order to build up their knowledge towards a final piece of artwork. We have studied various artists who use printing including Hokusai and his own volcano printed art work and we have taken inspiration from his work for our own. Layering will create a range of different colours for the print design and the children will learn about how to use colours together to create a pleasing outcome.

In computing this week the children will be thinking about how easily accessible personal information is on the internet. We will be looking at famous people and experimenting by finding as much personal information as we can on one chosen person, to demonstrate how easy it is to do. Our activities will hopefully make the children aware of what information to share and who it is important to share it with.
