MESSAGES

  • ‘Let’s Be Ambitious’ - We will be sending home an extra optional homework sheet on Wednesday for the children that like an extra challenge.  More information will be available in the homework folders.
  • Now the weather is getting warmer, please could you encourage your child to bring in a hat and also a water bottle so that they remain well hydrated during the day.

LITERACY

This week, we will focus on adventure stories. We will begin by looking at how to create tension in writing using a range of stimulus from the online resource: ‘The Literacy Shed’. The children will discuss why tension is used in stories and plan their writing verbally before writing paragraphs with effective sentence structure. We will also be focussing on setting description and we will use different resources to help form our ideas. After studying vocabulary and writing our setting descriptions, we will use a thesaurus and work on editing our work to improve and add detail to our writing. By doing this, the children will build up a word bank of new vocabulary that they can use over the next week.

MATHS

In maths this week we will be focusing on multiplication and division. The children will be  finding different ways of recalling all of their times tables up to 12x12 and thinking about their inverse. We will develop their use of formal written methods for both multiplication and division and think about ways to record mental jottings. The children will be encouraged to apply their skills to real life problems involving remainders and rounding, so they will need to decide which is most appropriate for each problem.

THEMED LEARNING

The Year 4 classes have been learning about Adventurers and Explorers through either Art or Digital Literacy this week. Those that completed Art this week, will move on to Digital Literacy and vice-versa. In Digital Literacy the children will be creating their own stop motion animations depicting the journey of an explorer / adventurer.  They will learn how stop motion animations string a series of images together to show movement. After experimenting with a range of materials they will storyboard their ideas in groups of two, and then begin making their animations.  In Art the children will learn about the role artists played in expeditions before photography was available.  They will practise sketching in detail, and missing colours to make the most life like shades possible.  Finally they will have the chance to make design objects from an imaginary land they have ‘discovered’.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING  AND  DIGITAL LITERACY

The exciting learning opportunity continues with teaching the children how to code using the App ‘Hopskotch’. This will continue throughout the term leading children to design and create their own games. This week we will be creating a game where an avatar avoids obstacles and learning how to degug our programmes to fix mistakes in the code.

De leerlingen van Year 5 en 6 werken verder aan hun kunstenaarsprofiel. Ook zij starten met het schrijven van een fantasieverhaal gebaseerd op een kunstwerk van een kunstenaar uit de Lage Landen.
