Week Beginning 6 February 2017

We look forward to welcoming the students back on Monday 6th February and hope that everyone had an enjoyable Chinese New Year.

  • Please note that there will be no ECAs on Tuesday 21 or Thursday 23 February due to Parent Teacher Conferences.  BISCAP and Swimming will not be affected.
  • We do our best to ensure the children’s hair is dried after swimming. To support us with this please can you make sure that your child brings a rubber swim hat, and a warm hat for outside play. Thank you for your continued support  with this.
  • Now the weather is beginning to get colder, please send your child with a coat and/or school fleece clearly labelled with their name.  Please do not send ‘hoodies’.  Children may also like to bring a hat to keep their head warm, especially after swimming.

In Literacy, we will turn towards narrative writing. The focus of our first week will be settings and how they can be described. The children will be using visual and audio clues to help them to build up a picture of a scene, whilst using different strategies to expand their descriptive vocabulary. This will in turn help them to write a piece based on writing similar to what has been studied throughout the week.

We move on to fractions on our first week back in Maths. Throughout the week lessons will focus on finding fractions of amounts, recognising equivalent fractions, ordering fractions and finally adding them.

This week we will be continuing to make models of volcanoes. We will be using modroc and wire mesh to form the base of our volcanoes and working in groups, we will paint and add texture to the models. We will explore the use of paper maiche to add details and paint to create rough, colour effects. After the model has been assembled, we will turn it in to a real volcano by using our Science knowledge from previous weeks to create an explosion in the middle!
