This week in Year 5, Literacy lessons will be a bit of a mystery! The children will look at developing their own descriptive writing skills through story writing. The lessons will begin with mysterious photographs. The children will be asked a series of questions about them and will generate ideas, thoughts and solutions to the mystery. They will then choose their favourite mystery setting and character and expand on their ideas, writing a story about it by the end of the week.

This week we shall be reviewing addition and subtraction skills. The children will practise using the column method to complete calculations efficiently. Activities and puzzles will be completed with the aim of increasing speed and fluency with number manipulation. There will be a specific focus on using columns with decimal numbers and solving word problems.

In Themed Learning this week the children will continue with their research into the Han Dynasty with a particular focus on understanding the pyramid structure of social class. The children will also begin to look at Han costume designs. Once they have selected some examples they will have the opportunity to try out the different water colour techniques. The names of the different techniques and terminology to be used are listed in the Key Vocabulary section below.

This week the children will apply the computer programming concepts they have learnt to design, create and debug programs. They will use logical reasoning to explain how their code executes by creating their own application.

This week the children will be focusing on positivity. The children will reflect on our recent assembly about positive thoughts and will think about what they can do to remain positive when faced with a variety of different scenarios. The children will discuss times when they have been faced with a challenge and their classmates will offer suggestions on how to be positive about it.

Year 5  Spanish -  Ms Watson

Students will be learning how to tell the time in order to discuss the activities they do in their spare time. They are learning how to discuss the day and time they go to the movies, go shopping or play football. For homework children are encouraged to continue with Duolingo as it greatly helps with pronunciation and expands their vocabulary.

Next week we will be using the vocabulary learned this week to ask questions re: where rooms are in the household/ where household items are.  Prepositions will be used in responses to add detail. Homework this week is to revise vocabulary.

Year 5 / 6 French – Ms De Borger

Next week we will start our new project ‘La Douce France’, getting ready for the International Week.  We will discover the French culture and try French foods, putting together a French recipe book and using our French cooking talents in the kitchen.

In French next week we will be focussing on describing preferences of school subjects and the reason why. We will also learn about a real primary school in France.

Informative Texte über das Leben der Wikinger war diese Woche unser Fokus, und zwar die Informationen in Form von W-Fragen erfragen und im Text zu finden.Wir haben ebenfalls geübt, eine Geschichte über Wikinger zu lesen und so viele wie möglich Fragen zu stellen. Das sollten die Kinder zu Hause weiter machen. Sie haben die Geschichte „Ulf und die starken Wikinger“ und sollten zu jeder Seite W-Fragen aufschreiben und die Antwort im Text markieren.

La semana próxima trabajaremos la comprensión lectora y el resumen. Para deberes, deben escribir sobre lo que han hecho el fin de semana, prestando especial atención a las reglas de acentuación.


Thema Blijspel

Deze week nemen we de Cito-toetsen spelling en de technisch lezen toetsen af.  De leerlingen kunnen spelling extra oefenen met de kaartjes van ‘Spelling Laat Zien’.

Alle leerlingen hebben een script van ‘hun’ toneelstuk. We oefenen deze week de rollen, werken aan de achtergrond en filmen alvast wat stukken. Houd zeker woensdag 1 maart vrij in uw agenda. Dan zullen de leerlingen hun ‘Blijspel’ opvoeren.
