MESSAGES

  • Date for the diary: Year 5 will be having their Themed Learning Showcase on Wednesday 7 December from 8:50am – 9:40am. We would like to invite parents to join us in celebrating all of the hard work the children have done during their ‘Building A Village’ topic.
  • Now the weather is beginning to get colder, please send your child with a coat and/or school fleece clearly labelled with their name.  Please do not send ‘hoodies’.  Children may also like to bring a hat to keep their head warm, especially after swimming.  

LITERACY

This week in Literacy we will be finishing off our persuasive pieces of writing.  The children will re-draft and improve their pieces of writing that will persuade parents to come and stay in their village. We look forward to sharing this with you during the Learning Showcase.

MATHS

This week the children will be learning about rotation and angles. They will learn to describe angles as a measure of turn, using degrees. They will be taught to use a protractor and they will calculate angles meeting at a point, straight line and right angle. The children will focus on accurate measurement and using vocabulary precisely.

THEMED LEARNING

‘Building a Village’

This week we will be spending time preparing for our learning showcase on Wednesday 7 December. We will be spending some time thinking carefully about how we are going to present our work and selecting which pieces we would like to share.  We will also be putting the finishing touches to our models, flags, presentations and instructional texts and are very keen to displayand celebrate this work with everybody.

This week the children will be typing up their poems that they wrote about The Highwayman last week. The children will be considering layout and presentation in order to publish and print their poems.

This week we will be discussing the theme of pride and confidence. The children will reflect on the Learning Showcase and discuss what made them feel proud. They will also discuss how confident they felt when delivering presentations and information to our parents.

We have looked at how the Christmas Traditions in Spain are different from those in England. We will continue to understand the origin of some of these traditions and cook some traditional Spanish Christmas Cookies. For homework children have been asked to research a Spanish speaking country and to find out about their Christmas traditions..

Next week we will continue to look at sports in Spanish.

Homework: To revise the verb tener and be able to use it in context.

Year 5 / 6 French – Ms De Borger

Next week we will start our Christmas topic, singing the French version of `Jingle Bells` and describing the French Father Christmas.  We will design a French Christmas card and think  about our wishes for 2017.

This week`s homework will  be making a collage of  4 famous fables written by Jean De La Fontaine.  Can you name all the animals in English?

Year 5/6 French - Ms Rae

Next week in French, we will be starting to think about Christmas.  We will learn about Christmas traditions in France as well as enjoy a traditional French story, ‘Roule Galette ‘ and compare it to an English story. Which traditional English story, does it remind you of?

Homework this week is read the weather map and write at least 5 sentences describing the weather.

Year 5/6 Native German – Ms. Brannasch

Im Mittelpunkt standen diese Woche 2 wichtige Aspekte: wie man einen Steckbrief schreibt und danach einen Sachtext verfasst. Ebenfalls haben die Kinder ihre Bücher in der Bibliohek umgetauscht und sollen weiterhin zu Hause lesen und und in den Lesetiger-Heften schreiben oder malen. Hausaufgabe für den nächsten Dienstag ist, ein Mini-Faltbuch zu basteln. Die Erklärungen und Vorlage sind im Booklet (KV 24). Die Kinder können die Vorlage ausschneiden und ausfüllen.

Year 5/6 Native Spanish  – Ms Garcia

La semana que viene vamos a trabajar la ortografía: diferencia entre letras j, g, y gu y letras z, c y qu. También seguiremos trabajando la comprensión lectora y la escritura. Los deberes para esta semana consistirán en completar la dos páginas siguientes del cuaderno.

Vroeger was alles ...

Vorige  week zijn we niet toegekomen aan dat wat er op de planning stond omdat Sinterklaas de leerlingen hele belangrijke opdrachten had gegeven die toch echt prioriteit hadden.

De leerlingen kijken deze week hun interviews terug en geven elkaar feedback op het werk (peer-response). De profielen van de opa’s en oma’s van de toekomst en de collages van familietradities worden gebundeld tot een boekje dat de leerlingen mee naar huis zullen nemen aan het einde van dit thema. We herhalen de aan bod gekomen woordenschat en beeldspraak.
