MESSAGES

  • Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. In particular please ensure your child is wearing black shoes. Girls should wear plain white socks and boys should wear black or grey socks. You can review the school’s uniform policy here.
  • Please remember to send in and label your child’s snack box and water bottle, as well as a hat during the hot weather.
  • If for any reason your child is unable to take part in PE, please send a signed message in your child’s communication book.  Your child still needs to bring in their PE kit to enable them to participate as a coach, an official or to give feedback.  If your child would be swimming, they should bring their normal PE kit.

LITERACY

This week in Literacy we will begin investigating various forms of poetry. We will look at how a range of poets use different literary techniques to add power and pathos to their work. To do this, we will link our writing to our World War 2 Themed Learning topic and continue to imagine what life would have been like for an evacuee in 1939 England. Having studied various forms of poetry we will then begin to write our own, concentrating on using advanced metaphors and similes to give our work dramatic power.

KEY VOCABULARY

Metaphors, similes, World War 2, evacuees

MATHS

This week in Maths will be learning all about angles. To start with, we will be revising the various types of angles and then look to identify them in complex patterns. We will then move on to look at the accurate measuring of angles using protractors, looking to be as precise as possible and identify whether our answers are logical. Finally, we will move on to looking at diagrams that are not drawn to scale and see how our knowledge of angles can lead us to find missing data without using a protractor.

KEY VOCABULARY

Acute, obtuse, reflex, protractors

THEMED LEARNING

We will be continuing our World War 2 topic and building on the foundations of knowledge we have laid in the first weeks back. The children will be investigating the Blitz and discovering what life was like for children under the rain of bombs falling upon London during 1940. They will also be using a range of challenging techniques in Art to construct a multi-layered piece of printed work that depicts the destruction of war. This will be coupled with an investigative scheme of work using laptops and iPads to study how shelters were built to keep the population safe from falling bombs.

KEY VOCABULARY

Blitz, evacuation, bombing, incendiary, lino

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING  AND  DIGITAL LITERACY

This week the children will use a new touch typing program and will continue to learn the coding language ‘Python’.
