Week Beginning 20 March 2017

Wednesday 22 March is World Water Day! This links to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, to ensure everyone has access to safe water by 2030. Please support this day by wearing anything BLUE and donating 10 RMB to the charity Water Aid!

In Literacy this week we will be continuing a fantastic unit of work on Shakespeare’s Macbeth. This week we will be moving further into the play, encountering Lady Macbeth and investigating the complicated emotions and motivations that the characters share. We will use drama to get under the characters’ skins and consider the impact of the witches’ prophesies.

In Maths this week we will be learning about fractions. We will begin by revisiting our learning from earlier in the term, checking our understanding of ordering and simplifying fractions. We will then move onto multiplying and dividing fractions, and then finish by looking at their relationship with decimals and percentages.

This term our new Themed Learning topic is water. This will be a unit that will involve a great deal of practical scientific investigation and the study of some challenging geographical case studies. In the next few weeks we will be looking at the issue of water scarcity across the globe and how communities overcome these challenges. We will also be beginning some scientific investigations into the properties of water. Other students will be using their art skills with batik to make a beautiful cushion.

This week the children will use a new touch typing program and will continue to learn the coding language ‘Python’.

In PSHCE this week we will focus further on fostering new relationships, creating rules and expectations for the group and how to work together successfully.  We will reflect on what we achieved last term and discuss new personal targets for the term ahead. We have  welcomed some new children to Year 6 and will discuss how we can continue to be helpful in settling them into their new school.

Next week we will be preparing posters for International week on foods eaten in different francophone countries.
Homework: to draw and describe in French a sandwich that reflects your country. The sandwiches descriptors and pictures will be given to Miss Jess for her to pick one that she would like to eat.

Next week we will begin to learn about hobbies, and learn the use of the phoneme j.
Homework: On Linguascope and Rockalingua, revise the vocabulary for weather.

Next week the children will continue to revise the names of items in their pencil cases and school subjects. They will build sentences using their vocabulary and be able to describe them in more detail using adjectives and offering opinions.
Homework is to create a short presentation naming the items in their pencil cases.

France and making a French Mother’s day card.

La semaine prochaine, nous travaillerons sur des petites dictées de phrase pour mieux évaluer la progression des enfants et le type de fautes qu'ils font. Pour les devoirs, il faut compléter la feuille d'exercice donnée en classe.

Wir beschäftigten uns diese Woche mit den genauen Beschreibungen der Wikinger, ihrer Häuser, ihrer Ausrüstung und ihrer Krieger. Dabei haben die Kinder eine Vermisstenanzeige geschrieben und vorgelesen. Wichtig waren dabei die treffenden Adjektive. Zu Hause sollten die Kinder Seite 68 im Booklet machen („Personen beschreiben: Menschen vermisst“) und in der Aufgabe 2 den Steckbrief verfassen, in dem die vermisste Wikingerfrau genau beschrieben sein soll.

La semana que viene vamos a seguir trabajando los cuantificadores numerales e indefinidos junto con la comprensión lectora. Como deberes, deben leer unas 10 páginas de su libro y resumir los acontecimientos.


Een hele kunst

We starten met een nieuw thema waarin Kunst met een grote K centraal staat. We leggen de nadruk op beschouwen en ervaren en het formuleren van onderbouwde meningen.

Verschillende boeken staan weer centraal, waaronder: ‘Willewete, Naar het museum’, ‘Het grote Rijksmuseum voorleesboek’, ‘Kunst voor kinderen’, ‘Kunstige Kwasten’ en ‘De Stip’.

Deze week hebben we het over feit en mening en kijken naar kunst. Samen met de leerlingen werken we een woordbank uit.

De Cito-resultaten van de meeste kinderen worden maandag mee naar huis gegeven. Een enkele leerling moet door afwezigheid nog een toets afmaken of inhalen. De uitslagen van deze leerlingen volgen later deze week.
