- This week is a short week. We will finish on Thursday 2 March and will return to school on Wednesday 8 March. No homework will be set for this week but the children may wish to participate in the many online activities on the Global Campus.
- In preparation for the Year 6 residential trip to Lin’an, 17 April – 21 April 2017, the Year 6 team would like to invite you to attend a question and answer session on Thursday 9 March in Stage One from 3:45 – 4:30 pm if you have any questions regarding the trip. There will be a session for students nearer the time and so this is just for parents. We will be issuing the trip information booklet prior to this and ask you to bring it along with any unanswered questions you might have and we will be more than happy to answer them for you.
This week in Literacy we will be continuing a series of lessons on the ‘mysteries’ genre. This is a wonderful topic full of specialist language, plot devises and interesting literacy techniques. The children will have the opportunity to do a lot of drama and role play to help them understand the complex plot mechanics that make up this much loved genre. This week we will be building to the children writing their own stories using the knowledge they have developed throughout the unit.

This week in maths we will be looking at a wide range of word problems. The children will look at how to identify the key information in a question to ensure they undertake the correct process. We will also look at how to use estimates to check answers and ensure accuracy, and look at some specialist mathematical vocabulary. Children will finish the week by writing their own word problems.

This term our new Themed Learning topic is water. This will be a unit that will involve a great deal of practical scientific investigation and the study of some challenging geographical case studies. In the next few weeks we will be looking at the issue of water scarcity across the globe and how communities overcome these challenges. We will also be beginning some scientific investigations into the properties of water. Other students will be using their art skills with batik to make a beautiful cushion.

This week the children will use a new touch typing program and will continue to learn the coding language ‘Python’.

In PSHCE this week we will focus further on fostering new relationships, creating rules and expectations for the group and how to work together successfully. We will reflect on what we achieved last term and discuss new personal targets for the term ahead. We will also welcome some new children to Year 6 and will discuss how we can be helpful in settling them into their new school.

Next week, students will be presenting the country they have chosen for the Francophone country project holidays in these countries and will be bidding for a holiday in one of thse countries based on what they hear .
Homework this weekend is to ensure that their presentation is the best they can make it and to complete the quiz on their presentation. Both need to be ready to show in Dr Cattel’s lesson on Tuesday.

Cela me permettra de faire un bilan sur les progrès des enfants en conjugaison. Certains exercices seront des verbes à conjuguer en contexte (dans des phrases). La semana que viene aprenderemos palabras con sufijos. También trabajaremos los determinantes cuantificadores. Para deberes, tienen que repasar los determinantes demostrativos.
Deze week komt het thema Blijspel tot een hoogtepunt met de showcase op woensdag 1 maart van 17.00 – 19.00 uur. De leerlingen oefenen in aanloop op de show hun tekst en rol; werken aan de achtergrond en het decor en schrijven de tekst voor de achterflap voor op de gigantische zelfgemaakte boekenkaften van Karel en Elegast en Reynaert de Vos.
In verband met de Cito-toetsen is er geen huiswerk. Wel worden de leerlingen aangemoedigd om thuis, samen met u, hun tekst voor het blijspel te oefenen.
