Week Beginning 6 March 2017

MESSAGES

  • In preparation for the Year 6 residential trip to Lin’an, 17 April – 21 April 2017, the Year 6 team would like to invite you to attend a question and answer session on Thursday 9 March in Stage One from 3:45 – 4:30 pm if you have any questions regarding the trip. There will be a session for students nearer the time and so this is just for parents.  We will be issuing the trip information booklet prior to this and ask you to bring it along with any unanswered questions you might have and we will be more than happy to answer them for you. 

LITERACY

This week in Literacy we will be finishing our series of lessons on the ‘mysteries’ genre. This is a wonderful topic full of specialist language, plot devises and interesting literacy techniques. The children will have the opportunity to do a lot of drama and role play to help them understand the complex plot mechanics that make up this much loved genre. This week we will be building to the children writing their own stories using the knowledge they have developed throughout the unit.

MATHS

This week in maths we will be looking at factors, multiples and prime numbers. This will involve times table speed recall practice and discussions of how to quickly find factors by looking at patterns. We will also be conducting some investigations with prime numbers and assessing the children’s conceptual understanding. We will finish the week with some excellent investigative work.

THEMED LEARNING

This term our new Themed Learning topic is water. This will be a unit that will involve a great deal of practical scientific investigation and the study of some challenging geographical case studies. In the next few weeks we will be looking at the issue of water scarcity across the globe and how communities overcome these challenges. We will also be beginning some scientific investigations into the properties of water. Other students will be using their art skills with batik to make a beautiful cushion.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING  AND  DIGITAL LITERACY

This week the children will use a new touch typing program and will continue to learn the coding language ‘Python’.

PSHCE

In PSHCE this week we will focus further on fostering new relationships, creating rules and expectations for the group and how to work together successfully.  We will reflect on what we achieved last term and discuss new personal targets for the term ahead. We have  welcomed some new children to Year 6 and will discuss how we can continue to be helpful in settling them into their new school.

Lebhaft ging es im Unterricht diese Woche zu, denn wir haben Rollenspiele „Auf dem Wikingermarkt“ gespielt und dabei die Vokabeln gelernt und wiederholt.
Zu Hause sollen die Kinder das Rollenspiel vorlesen und vorspielen üben (im Booklet S. 79). Und natürlich ihr Lesetigerbuch nicht vergessen.

La semana que viene trabajaremos la comprensión lectora y los cuantificadores numerales e indefinidos. Como deberes, deben revisar las normas de acentuación en las palabras agudas, llanas y esdrújulas.

DUTCH

Afronding Blijspel

We blikken terug op een fantastisch show en ronden het thema Blijspel af. De leerlingen van Y3 t/m 6 werken deze week aan een gezamenlijke klassendisplay over hun show. Ze werken aan een karakterbeschrijving en een pakkende samenvatting van het gespeelde verhaal, zonder het einde te verklappen (een zogenaamde ‘blurb’ of achterflaptekst). Ook schrijft elke leerling een evaluatie aan de hand van een vooraf opgestelde controlelijst.

We streven ernaar u deze week de Cito-resultaten mee te kunnen geven.
